All users have an Office 365 mailboxes presumably as I have created all the users

Users not capable of exporting contacts I don't think

We've paid for easymail till summer, so that shouldn't be an issue

I dont think the bosses will go for this solution as people won't have all their emails to hand - are you saying that they will have to use easymail to look at old emails and office 365 for new ones? What if they need to reply to an email that is more than a couple of days (or whenever the cutoff) is old? Would they have to log into easymail, copy it somehow, log out and then log in to 365 to send a reply?

Sorry, it isnt going to work - but on the plus side, I havent been given a time limit, they know we are having problems ATM

I tried a migration using the onmicrosoft address instead of the easymail one - well, the one in the first column anyway, it says synced but there is no mailbox :(

I would hope that any teacher in this day and age could follow a step by step guide, otherwise I now start to see how much trouble they give you, and can lend you a cluebat if you need one for them ;)

The following steps would need screenshots, but this is the process to export the contacts just for reference.

To export contacts, follow the steps below:

1.Log on to RM EasyMail™ Plus.

2.Click Options.

3.Click the Contacts tab.

4.Under Export Contacts, from the 'Export from Book' drop-down menu, select the address book from which you want to export contacts.

5.From the Format drop-down menu, select the format to which you want to export the contacts. You should select Microsoft Outlook (.CSV).

6.Click Export Contacts.

7.Click Save. By default, the file is called contacts.csv (Microsoft Outlook export). Remember where you saved it.

8.Login to Office 365 e-mail.

9.Click on People in the top bar.

10.Click the cog in the top right of screen and select Import Contacts.

11.Browse for the contacts.csv file you just saved from Easymail.

12.Click Next

To be honest, the best way to migrate the e-mail is once you are sure there is no more being sent to the account, otherwise you have to keep syncing the accounts and no-one starts moving to the new system. So far about 2/3's of your accounts have been successfully migrated and syncing which is not bad (not good, as it should be 100% but not bad either as it could be 3 accounts only)

With luck the remaining accounts can be migrated across using other methods like Outlook or connected accounts but this is a once only kind of action so you don't want more e-mails to keep arriving in the old system.

@plexer might be able to get it running via powershell and ignoring some folders in the migration process. In the meantime grab a drink as it's the weekend and only 5 more days of term to go at most :)

All new mail will go in to Office 365.

Accounts which haven't yet successfully synced with still have old email in easymail until we get them to sync.

Accounts which have synced will have old emails in Office 365.

Yes, so not really do-able

Also, I have tried the syncing via Outlook for the dep head and one of my accounts and they both failed :(

@witch as per email I've just sent you it appears the users that are failing are doing so because IMAP access is not available to their accounts so either they have a different template in easymail possibly not the advanced template? or SWGFL needs to make sure IMAP is enabled for all accounts.

Thanks

As far as I know they all have the same template - I will check though :)

*edit

I have checked and three or four of the failed ones were on a different template - "custom settings" rather than "staff" but unfortunately not all, and some of the ones on "custom settings" did sync OK such as my own account, ittech

So I am not sure that is an explanation.

I will ask SWGfL on Mon about the IMAP

No email yet, @plexer

How did you figure out the IMAP thing

@witch I replied at 15:43 with some screenshots.

Otherwise IMAP login does not work for the failed accounts, I used telnet and get a successful login using details of accounts that have synced and then with 2 of the ones that failed to migrate in Office 365 I got access denied trying to login using IMAP so I'm hoping that is indeed the issue.

@witch Re-sent it to your sky email address.

Every single one in your spreadsheet that failed on office 365 fails to login via imap using Telnet to test so something is wrong on the easymail setup and SWGFL can fix it for you and then it will all work.

Can't you pull it up with Mail.school name.county.sch.uk in the URL bar of a Google page?

No, I meant his email hadnt arrived. Got the resend but the original still nowhere!

An update: SWGfL are looking into the IMAP issue as revealed by @plexer (bless him)

I still don't really understand how things can be partially IMAP'ed (I have checked the settings for all those affected and can see no differences between those that succeed and those that fail) - but I bow to the superior knowledge of those that do.

Watch this space :)

Elsiegee40 asked me to have a look over this thread as SWGfL have apparently still not been able to fix the problem for Witch. I have migrated two EasyMail domains: one to Live@Edu (Office 365 predecessor) and one to Google Apps.

I do not have much to add as Witch seems to have been well advised, but I do have one suggestion. We had issues (in 2010) setting up Outlook to access EasyMail through IMAP for some accounts. The cause was that password changes made in EasyMail did not change the password for IMAP access, as they were supposed to, so the accounts had two different passwords one for web access and one for IMAP. The fix was to reset the password through the admin console, as that did set both the web and IMAP passwords.

So I would suggest Witch try resetting the password on one of the accounts that will not migrate through the admin web page. It could just be reset to the same password it should already have. Then try migrating that account again. I will provide instructions for resetting passwords if you would like them.

By the way, my experience is that RM never actually deletes EasyMail domains. The two migrated domains are still there and apparently usable, even though for multiple years they have not been used or paid for. I have just reset all account passwords to random values so that no one can log in.

Ok

I will try that - hopefully it will work - well I can only pray :)

Unfortunately though, I set all the passwords in the first place through the admin console so I am not sure this will make any difference.

Yes that does make it seem unlikely it will work.

Do you know whether POP access to the problematic accounts works or is that the same as IMAP?

I have just reset the passwords on two accounts and unfortunately they still won't migrate :(

POP doesn't work on any of them as far as I know - I was told by SWGfL that it would only work with IMAP

I think the automatic migration does only work with IMAP, but if you could get POP access you might be able to do a manual one using Outlook.

Are you able to contact RM directly about the problem or does SWGfL require that you go through them?

Is the password you are setting not too complex? I had issues with IMAP and a password with a ? in it.

Once I removed that IMAP worked. That was in outlook mind and the school have since gone to Office 365 and migration worked fine with the simpler password

Our passwords are one word with no characters of any sort.

When we ring SWGfL we are in fact talking to RM

As I said, they told me there was no POP access - I could ask again.

I am very grateful for the help, guys..:)

And 11 letters or less? I am reminded that I had problems with migrations where the password was 16 characters, possibly related to Office365 passwords needing to be 15 characters or less. However I know 11 characters should work as that is what I used.

And they have not managed to do anything for 3 months? That is remarkably poor. While they might not be able to help with the migration, IMAP access is an important feature to just leave broken entirely. If you have been asking them to help you with the migrator, perhaps instead you could try setting up one of the problematic accounts in Outlook (RM instructions). It will fail if IMAP is not working. Then ring up RM and ask them why it is not working.

As I said, they told me there was no POP access - I could ask again.

They are probably right. It is coming back to me that it stopped working for us and we had to move over to IMAP.

The issue from my investigations before I am sure is that some accounts have imap enabled and some don't.

Will do some more looking tomorrow.

Digging up this again..

Can anyone tell me about folder migration from easymail to Office 365? Several users are asking whether they can keep their folders once we go over and I am struggling to find an answer.
