ICT Direct offering Broadband

According to their newsletter, ICT Direct are now offering broadband. However I would like to suggest that they provide a little more information:

 

"We have recently transferred a primary school from their local authority broadband package onto one of our packages; we doubled the bandwidth available to them whilst at the same time cutting their annual cost from £16,000 to £12,000."

 

As many would baulk at the idea of spending much more than 4-5k PA all included for running broadband to a primary school, I suspect some more information (line speed, services provided etc that makes up that cost!) might help

If anyone from ICTDirect is about, would it be cheeky to ask who your carrier is?

We will be launching the new service at the start of the new school year - our newsletter article was acting as a teaser.

 

The school in the example was a larger school that wanted a bespoke service with 200Mbps broadband speed.

 

We'll be offering a simply priced primary school DSL package with single content filtering policy starting at £49pm ex VAT. We'll also offer a more bespoke service for secondary schools - please watch this space.

 

We've partnered with Manchester based M247. They were founded on 2000, in 2010 they were ranked fourth fastest growing technology company in the North of England by Deloitte.

 

M247 Service Level Agreement - If there is a fault, then M247 aim to have that sorted within 4 hours. Obviously they are reliant on BT and the other physical cable providers that they use, but M247 will always keep you informed of progress. They are open 24/7 so there is no difficulty getting hold of them. M247 will also provide compensation for lack of connectivity for example 1-12 hours - 1 day credit (further details will follow).

 

We can provide quotes now - we just need a land line number and an outline of your broadband requirements.

I would be impressed at them using 200Mbit connectivity! Do they all live on youtube all day?

It's great that more and more providers are supplying broadband to schools, but the only downside (in my experience), is that you need an LA connection to access certain internal/intranet resources/websites. This is an absolute nuisance so you do need to weigh up costs vs. convenience. It's about time the Government stepped in and addressed these issues as clearly there's just a conflict of interest. It's not like Jo Public who can use any provider of their choosing at home and access all websites they regularly require.

In Wales they have stepped in ... it is England that is destroying things ... but part of that is brought on by schools demanding that they know best and they want to choose from the market, a distrust of previous solutions from LAs / RBCs and the politics around money for things seen as non-essential.
