[ipad] Buying iTunes/App Store gift vouchers

We've got a few iPads for teachers to take over the summer, trial apps and report back in September. Obviously we don't want to link the school credit card to the Apple ID so gift cards seem the most sensible way. But how should I buy them? If I buy them from the Apple Store using another Apple ID (We do have one with the credit card on file) will it give me the code straight away which I can add to the other account? Or am I better off just going to the supermarket and buying physical cards??

We purchased a pile in bulk direct from Apple Store. Turned out that they hadn't activated them prior to shipping, so none of them worked, and it took well over 8 months to get it sorted so that we could use the thousand+ pounds worth of them. Finance had already handed them out to staff, and staff had scratched n' tried, but not paid any attention to the error msg in iTunes that says the card needs activating first (go to a link, type in the cards' serial number). These came back in in dribs n drabs, and no-one kept a record of cards that had been used etc, so we still to this day have a box of iTunes vouchers all with the back scratched off, and no idea whether they were used successfully or not. Only way to find out is to try them.

 

As soon as we landed in the middle of that issue, we resorted to heading down to Sainsburys and buying them straight over the til. MUCH easier, with all cards ready to use immediately.

We issued iPad minis to the members of SLC (HOF and HODs etc) they set up their itunes account them selves, however to register first of all you need a credit card. Try before you go shopping.

They sell the iTunes cards at the Post Office now.

 

We buy them from our local branch, which is quite near the school.

You don't need a credit card to register, you can set up a free account and just the add the voucher code for credit

Yes, to set up a free account with no card details just dowload a free app first then follow prompts to set up an account, took me a while to find that out...doh!
