Monitoring software for Android/iPad tablets

Hello,

 

Apologies if this is in the wrong area.

 

We currently use AB Tutor Control to monitor and share pupils PC's within our ICT rooms, however I have been asked to find something similar (if it exists) that would allow teachers to monitor use of tablet PC's, which will most likely be either Android based or iPads.

 

Is anyone currently using such technology? If so, are there any recommendations?

Hi, NetSupport School has support for students using Android Tablets (and Google chromebooks if needed).

They do software separately from the hardware tablets (although those might be a good choice for Android tabs) and they include classroom management software.

I'd been told that apps to monitor activity on Android and iPad weren't possible, because the apps all run isolated from each other. That could have just been a yarn from a supplier whose monitoring product couldn't do Android though...

Monitoring is possible on Android. Learnpad has browser based monitoring software that can also share the screen of any of the tablets in the class on a whiteboard /projector via the web browser.

Unless I'm misreading this, LearnPad allows you to see and control what is on screen, but not report on which apps have been used or which websites have been visited.

 

Other than that, it does look pretty neat.

 

Another product worth a look is Display Note - I saw it at BETT and was impressed, cross-platform but I think it requires a PC/Mac to run from rather than being entirely tablet-based.

It is impossible via iPad due to the way the apps are sandboxed, also an app would never be allowed system privileges to capture the screen (Or allowed to get past the App Store review team)

It is impossible to monitor other apps on the iPad, as they are sand-boxed, but you can monitor your own app, the AB Tutor iPad client does that.
