friend just got an S4 upgrade from iphone for £100 for the unit plus £38 for 24 months (anytime upgrade).

 

Orange do 25% discount for gov workers, my N4 (purchased outright from google) costs me about £19 a month now.

If you really want to go down the iOS route, I would personally just go for the iphone5. Historically Apples "S" models really have not brought a great deal to the table in terms of hardware. The greatest innovation coming to the iPhone platform is iOS7 which can be downloaded by any device iphone4 or newer. I personally have an iphone4S and regretted getting one over the much cheaper iphone4. There really isn't a huge amount of difference between the two, besides Siri and a faster A5 processor. When my contract runs out I will most definitely be going back to android. Apple really are slacking when it comes to innovation at the moment and I really do like the look of the new nexus device (cant remember what its called)

I had to provide visual ID (proving i'm me) and some proof I work for local government, I took payslips.

 

They gave me 25% off line rental and the upgrade was free (hero->GS2), dunno if they'll give you 25% off the handset, but worth speaking to them.

I've just jumped ship from iPhone and bought an LG Nexus 4. I love it. Got bored of the iPhone tbh, had all versions from 3 to 4s.

Iphone 5 gets my vote.

 

Its great. Had a few Android phones and none have been as good as the i5, in my opinion!

Stay on Android. I was always Android but decided to try out the iPhone 4s. Worst move ever. Hate the phone. Actually despise it. Hate the keyboard. Hate how it likes to think it knows better than me - actually I wanted to spell "Well" not "We'll". Very few techie apps, plenty of fart ones. Crashes. Slow. Worst of all, it alerts everyone around me to the fact I have a small manhood.

 

Can't wait for my contract to end. ATM I like the HTC one.

I was tempted by the S4 but as I was buying SIM free I couldn't justify all that extra money for the sake of a few more features... :/ But I got it in the 'Limited Edition' Red. They say limited edition but it's probably not that Limited! xD
