AV Class Room set up

Hi Guys

 

Had a search didn't seem to come across anything but i am interested to hear what other schools use as a AV setup, the school i am situated at is currently building a set of new class rooms and we are looking at led projectors to a screen with a soundbar style speaker system at the front of the room to make it look quite neat but just wondering what others have and any brand suggestions on LED projectors

Casio led xjm150 ( i think will check when i get in) on a pole projected onto Promethean Activ Boards using either the built speakers of the board using usb or a set of external speakers mounted on the wall. With other devices like apple tv plugged either into the additional sockets on the activ board itself or into a wall plate connected to the speakers.

 

Can post a picture of the two styles of setup if interested.

All bar one of our schools have Smartboards. A lot have a mixture of old lamp based projectors - Panasonic, Hitachi, nec. They have wall mount speakers - Normally Nuvo.

 

Some are upgrading to Casio LED projectors. The rest go for our 55" - 65" LED dual touch.

What do you think of those Avid amps? Are they good enough for Music and Film playback in a classroom? Just thinking, they look a lot neater than a big desktop amplifier that we currently use.

We use the tech connect amps similar to those avid ones but cheaper and more powerful.

Yep the are fine in general classrooms, I had them in MFL Rooms, Humanities, Science Labs and IT Rooms and no complaints from any user in-fact the MFL dept said they were much better than the old desktop speakers screwed to the wall. The other nice thing with using ceiling speakers is that you no longer deafen the teacher / front row students so the back can hear it as you put the speakers in the middle of the room and the way we did it was middle of the room and one over each side of desks so to speak and it worked really well.

 

 

That is a photo of my conference room I designed, the Amp is in the dado trunking under the IWB (since moved further down so not in a silly place....) but shows you all the bits of it

We set up many new classrooms with interactive boards Etc- It always come down to budjet- saying that the minium for most classrooms now is atleast a interactive board and projector. Casio Led projectors are good but if it is a new classroom with no ols Kit you may be batter with a interactive board and a UST projector as then you want have a pole hanging off your cieling and when instaklling you wont have to deal with installing the pole and electric socket in or near the ceiling.

 

We have also put many interactive displays in recently as you wont need a projector it will just be a screen on the wall- again all down to budjet.

Definitely recommend ceiling speakers anywhere you have a drop ceiling. Not only do they look neater, but the entire ceiling void acts as the speaker enclosure and gives them speakers a surprising boost compared with wall speakers of a similar size.

 

I've used both the Avid and TechConnect amps; @plexer is right that the TechConnect ones are more powerful, but the Avid ones are fine for small rooms. The TechConnect ones are so good that I even got enough oomph out of one to do power 2 pairs of 8" ceiling speakers in our assembly hall by wiring up the speakers in parallel to lower the impedance.
