Hi

 

I am having issues trying to get proxy settings to come through to Windows 8 IE 10.(amongst other things)

 

I was reading this post :

and it mentioned "IE Maintenance is DEAD! Long live GP Preference Internet Settings!!!"

 

I have never used Preference Internet settings so i know anything about them.

 

Is this better than IE maintenance? Also when i did look in the GP preference setting section i didnt have an option for IE10, is this something i can add?

 

Could anyone shed any light here for me please

Better? No. Different. You can add a Preference setting for IE10 by editing the xml of the GPP object (create one for IE8/9 first in GPMC) in your sysvol to enable it to support IE10, instructions are around on how to do this. You can natively edit this also, using a Windows 8 PC with RSAT or Server 2012 with GPMC. Server 2008 R2 cannot natively manage IE10 settings.

Use a regedit with GPP, works a treat. You'll have similar/same problems with IE10 on Win 7.

This is what I did personally:

 

Open up the policy, and create an IE8 Preference: User Configuration --> Preferences --> Control Panel Settings --> Internet Settings --> New --> Internet Explorer 8.

 

Set my proxy settings.

 

 

Navigate to C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain\Policies was an easier route, then sort by date for the recently created IE entry.

 

Navigate to User\Preferences\InternetSettings

 

"Open up the "InternetSettings.xml" file, and change the MAX value to something above 10.0.0.0 (I usually put 10.5.0.0). This way, the policy won't trip up later on if IE 11 comes out and doesn't support any of these policies, but at least you'll be safe until 10.5.0, or until a hotfix is available. " -babylon78

You need to use RSAT on Windows 8 (or server 2012) to get the IE 10 preferences. The link also points out a gotcha that caught myself and others out when using the preference!
