Building a FreeNAS for home

I quite fancy a QNAP for home but it's more money than I want to spend at the moment so I am going to use an older PC and install FreeNAS on it but I need some new fresh hard drives. At the moment I want 2 x 1tb drives. Has anyone see any deals knocking about? I missed out on some WD greens for £38 each last week

Red's are designed specially for NASs. The Green's aren't (and are widely known to be problematic with ZFS).

Pixmania would be the the last place on Earth I would buy HDDs from (or for that matter anything). They really are that bad.

Have you considered NAS4Free rather than FreeNAS? I tried FreeNAS and found it a bit unintuitive. Switched to NAS4Free due to some other issues I had and found it much more sensible to my mind - its what I'm running now at home.

No I had not, but not for any reason other than I had not seen it. I will look into it more, thank you.

Amen to that. First and last time I bought a hard drive from them, they sent it with a European power adapter and bouncing loose inside a box four or five times bigger than it needed to be. All the way from France too. No packaging, padding or anything to protect it. Never again.
