Projector Ceiling Mounts. Suppliers?

Hi folks,

 

Can anyone recommend a supplier that has a variety of projector ceiling mounts and brackets? I'm struggling to find someone via Google.

 

Do ceiling mounts only bolt back, or are there any types with clamps? We're trying to connect a pole to a fairly narrow steel beam.

We've used B Tech mounts & Vision(Techmount | Vision | AV Installation ProductsVision | AV Installation Products) I have to say I like the vision ones most :-)

We usually use CPC. They have a good range of projector mounts and brackets. The Sahara 1m kit normally works well in our classrooms.

Neither vision nor Sahara from what I can see offer and I beam clamp mount though.

For more unusual installations I would be looking at making my own, I don't know how much that B-tech one is but for probably £20 worth of materials you could make your own. Two bits of steel and 4 lengths of threaded bar and some nuts and washers combined with a normal projector mount kit bolted to the bottom steel job done. I have made my own up like that for installs before around strange columns and bars and it has worked very well.

Speak to Unicol who manufacture stands and projector mounts. You can order via Misco. But Unicol are well made products and alot better made than the cheap ones from the likes of CPC (which I also buy) depends on your budget.

It gets even more complex, as the beam we want to suspend off is directly in line with the ceiling grid, so we'll have to come off at angle.

 

Our usual AV installer suggested a piece of wood behind a ceiling tile, and then bolt into that, but it didn't sound very safe to me You could push the ceiling tile out, and the whole lot would drop on top of you, or onto the floor (cables permitting).

Your suspended ceiling grid would also have to be designed to hold the weight which I suspect it wasn't designed to do.

 

Sounds like you need to do a custom job, have you got 2 beams above the ceiling where you could run uni-strut between kind of like this:

You can get ceiling tile projector mounts but they fix to the real ceiling and hang in the tile space. You can get automatic ones that lower themselves as well £$£

 

if you haven't purchased the projector yet hang it from the beam and get a projector with optical shift. (V handy)

Interesting the original ceilign will have some beam above the plaster work somewhere for you to get a fix into so the unistrut solution could work, batten down with timber from the orignial and then use the plates (or decent plywood) around the I beam and fix to that. Where there is a will there is a way

 

You can also use Beam Clamps around the edge of the existing beam if you don't need to move the projector too far from it, they clamp onto the edge of the beam and use the uni-strut fed through it to make a tight fix, they work well I have a few items up that way

chazzy2501: We can't hang it directly from the beam because the grid structure is directly below annoyingly. I'm not sure if there's a right angle mount? We've not had any luck finding one so far, but the beam is a bit small so won't take a large connector.

Get some unistrut and some beam clamps to give you a fixing to the side of the beam location and then mount projector mount to the unistrut.

john: it looks like a reinforced concrete ceiling with the metal formwork still in place below. Difficult to drill into I suspect, and may even require a diamond drill if it's very tough cement.

 

plexer: D&T room. Apparently they used this beam and another further down the room to suspend a plane wing while they were working on it (!). The teacher discovered them, hung off them, and decided they were strong enough
