sparkeh Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 Corden was in Doctor Who as a side character in a couple of episodes, I can't see them bringing him back as The Doctor. Had to watch that episode from behind the sofa. Can't bear the Corden schtick. Would have to stop watching if it was him.
sonofsanta Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I've enjoyed Smith as the Doctor, he was suitably madcap in a way that suited my perception of the Doctor. I think this last series has been weak but the earlier runs with Amy Pond were ace. I'd say they had some of the best series arcs plotlines - at one point everyone was complaining it was too complicated for people to follow along, I think for the cracks in time/exploding Tardis story, or maybe the Doctor dying in the astronaut suit. RTD's seasons tended to drop one hint a few times without really tying it in just so he could pull out something at the end without it making much sense - e.g. Bad Wolf, or He Will Knock Four Times. Both of those were just mentioned repeatedly without really changing anything until the final episode. No point in trying to guess who will be the next Doctor, both Smith and Tennant were fairly unknown at time of casting, I suspect this time will be the same. I, for one, would enjoy a run of John Hurt though

He'll be crap Matt Smith was better wah wah" routine once it's announced who's taking over. I still remember it like it was yesterday when Matt Smith was being slated left right & center for taking over from Tennant. OT: 'Tis a shame, he did a really good job but like with all the actors they have to move on at some point - it's clear they spend literally all of their time filming for it, good on him I say. Unlikely (based on the following blog post by Neil Gaiman). neil-gaiman.tumblr.com/post/52244065702/what-would-you-say-to-sir-ian-mckellen-taking-the I think that if you'd asked me who should be the 11th Doctor 5 years ago I wouldn't have listed Matt Smith, because I didn't know who he was or what he was capable of, and if you'd asked me who should play Sherlock Holmes in a modern day revival around the same time I wouldn't have said Benedict Cumberbatch, because I didn't know who he was either. I actually like it when The Doctor is a relatively unknown actor, or one without one huge role that made them famous. A star, like Sir Ian, brings all the other roles they've ever played to the table when they act. Seeing John Hurt as the (Spoiler) at the end of the Name of the Doctor, meant that this was a certain type of part with a certain amount of gravitas, and you understood that John Hurt was bringing everything with it (including being John Hurt), just as Derek Jacobi did as the Master. But I like to see The Doctor as The Doctor, and an actor who doesn't bring baggage is a grand sort of thing. A star waiting to happen. So I don't want to see Helen Mirren or Sir Ian McKellen or Chiwetel Ejiofor, or any of the famous names people are suggesting. I want to see The Doctor. I want to be taken by surprise. I want to squint at a photo of the person online and go “but how can that be The Doctor?”. Then I want to be amazingly, delightedly, completely proven wrong, and, six episodes in, I want to wonder how I could have been so blind. Because this is the Doctor. Of course it is. 3

I was sat in the foyer of the Marriott hotel in Bristol on Saturday, waiting for the "Creating Sherlock" panel at CrimeFest (stop laughing!). When the three creators walked in, two vanished around the corner but Moffat reappeared on his mobile and said something along the lines of "hmm, i've never had to think about that with regeneration". I thought it was a strange comment but then left to go join the queue. Got home that day and the news broke and i was a bit "ooooooohhhh!". So, i potentially overheard a convo about it. 1

I'm all for feminism, but sometimes feel it would be better off concentrating on issues other than what sex the bloomin' Doctor is going to be! I vote BoJo as next Doctor anyway...
