ieuanprice Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Hi We are using Sims behaviour in school, and up until now we have always produced reports based on a COUNT of the number of behaviour concerns a pupil has, and our behaviour specialist call up lists of selected types of behaviour, for instance ignoring the concerns that are purely about a pupil forgetting equipment. We have recently decided to use the points system, allocating a greater number of points for harsher behaviour types to collate a better picture of the behaviour or students, however this is causing me some difficulty producing a report of this. I have a report that shows me the total points, in a date range, but when I run it it produces a different row for every behaviour instance a pupil has, so each pupil appears multiple times, and when i ran the report for a form class I received 2100 entries, when all I wanted was each pupil to appear once, with the total points for that time for both behaviour and achievement. Anyone got any ideas how I can do this? I can send/upload the exported report if that helps someone look at it - or i am happy to use a report someone else has created, if someone was so kind. (Couldn't attach as the file extension is not allowed) Thanks Ieuan
vikpaw Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Look for some of the built-in ones. There is a column under student focussed reports that will give, total behaviour points, that should only give you one row per student. The only time this will go wrong is if you are pulling back other info, that is unique then you'll get a row for every unique value. e.g. if you also show behaviour type, they'll get total points shown against each behaviour type. The other time that happens is if you pull data out of a sub-table like those blue buttons at the bottom that link to another table in the db. hope that makes sense.
LosOjos Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Unfortunately, SIMS won't give you these totals over a date range (unless you only need to be as specific as which Academic Year). What you'd need to do would be to create a Student report with a Student Conduct Information subreport. Then, you add the Points and Achievement/Behaviour fields, and a filter for the Date range on the subreport. When the data is all dropped out in to Excel, Pivot it. Your data field pivot will be the sum of the Points column, and you can add columns based on the Achievement/Behaviour column to get a breakdown by Achievement/Behaviour points. If you're any good with VBA/Macros, you can make the report perform this pivot automatically when run; take a look at the SIMS.net Advanced Reporting guide from Capita for details on how to do that 1
ieuanprice Posted May 21, 2013 Author Posted May 21, 2013 Thanks both for your replies, Vikpaw, I saw the pre-loaded reports, but then only give me behaviour counts, which is what i've been using up until now. However when I add total points onto this it gives me the total behaviour points for the academic year, and the number of behaviours for the date period. thank you LosOjos I thought of doing it in a pivot table etc but I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible for staff, and was hopeful Sims would let me do this.
tombry Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 @LosOjos has the right idea, if you can design the XLMT to attach to the report it will be dead simple for staff, my LA Support team made one, but I don't use it, as I put out weekly files that I make up in excel.
neilenormal Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 If you have access to SupportNet ? resource 925 on the file sharing might be of some help. It was done by a clever network manager in one of our schools. Neilenormal
CarpeDiem Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Hi, I have a report that shows Total Achievement and Total Behaviour and Conduct Reports (ie Achievement-Behaviour points). It's an easy report to set up and can be filtered by cohort etc.
ieuanprice Posted July 3, 2013 Author Posted July 3, 2013 Hi, I have a report that shows Total Achievement and Total Behaviour and Conduct Reports (ie Achievement-Behaviour points). It's an easy report to set up and can be filtered by cohort etc. I've got one we'rew using, but i'm not very happy with it, I'd love to be able to see what you've got setup to see if its more suitable for us?
Reverend_Dan Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 There are a couple of reports in the userfiles on sims support that i have used for our staff, have a look at files 956 , 871, 858 they are on page 5. I think it was the 956 Rewards Net points that i used which lets you specify everything then generates the pivot table for you with a macro

CarpeDiem Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Hi Ieuan The one we use as the basic totals is: Surname Forename Reg Group % Present Marks Total Achievement Points Total Behaviour Points Total Conduct Points and the one we use for the detailed summary is Surname Forename Reg Group >>Achievements Type Subject Date Description Outcome Points Recorded On >>Staff Involved Full name of the staff [Full Name] Does this help?
