I brought one of these TEMPer USB sensors hoping to rig some email alerts if our server room gets hot.

These units only support windows XP era OS so I'm now looking for another solution.

What are you guys using?

We use the climate CM-2, works really well.

I use it for temperature and light level monitoring. The light levels are really useful as it shows if someone turns the lights on and enters a classroom or server room.

As our server is in the IT Suite, I just look at the timetable to know when it will be full of kids so I open windows. We do have a air conditioning unit but if a class is in their it still gets too warm.

We keep a small child down in the basement... he pops up to let us know if it is too hot and then returns to fan the servers.

(The hardware temperature sensors also help us to know if the kit is too hot)

I bought network management cards for our APC UPS that came with temperature and humidity probes. Have temperature and humidity on the front air intake for the rack, and a separate temperature probe inside the rack.

We're about to replace a Sensatronics Senturion with a Room Alert 24E. (Environment Monitor Room Alert 24E | Openxtra)

We use it to monitor humidity, flood, power status, temperature, door entry and light levels.

Reason we're replacing is due to a contractor wrecking the flood sensor and us not being able to get hold of a replacement in the UK.

Cost about £1k for the unit and all the different sensors we wanted.
