2012 GPOs on 2008 R2

Hello all,

 

Here's how to get the latest Win 8 and Server 2012 policies on Server 2008 R2 -

 

Download and install this file on your Domain Controller.

 

The files will be installed to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Group Policy\Windows Server 2012\PolicyDefinitions

 

Firstly create a new PolicyDefinitions folder on your Domain Controller: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain\Policies

 

It should read: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain\Policies\PolicyDefinitions

 

Now copy all the ADMX files in the root and the en-us folder within: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Group Policy\Windows Server 2012\PolicyDefinitions to C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain\Policies\PolicyDefinitions. Don't copy other language folders unless you require them.

 

Wait a few minutes and the new GPOs will start appearing. Windows Server knows to update based on the timestamp of the ADMX templates. You can also manage various settings for Internet Explorer 10.

 

Within Group Policy Management Editor, select View > Filter Options... You can filter out just Win 7, Win 8, IE10 GPOs etc...

 

If you find Spell Check isn't working in IE10, please do the following:

 

Navigate to your Profiles$ share on your server, username.V2\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft. Create a new folder labelled Spelling, then another folder labelled en-gb or whichever language you require.

 

It should read: \\Servername\Profiles$\username.V2\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Spelling\en-gb

 

Internet Explorer 10 should now Spell Check on supporting websites, including the new Office 365, Exchange 2013.

On a related issue, if you import and approve Internet Explorer 10 in WSUS, it will fail with the error 9C47 unless KB2670838 is installed first. KB2670838 can also be imported and approved in WSUS.

 

Alternatively manually downloading and installing Internet Explorer 10 will work, as it installs all prerequisites it requires before installing Internet Explorer 10.

It's the forum software, it splits anything above 50chars in length down So no it's not supposed to have the space, but no it's not a typo etc
