Paid_Peanuts Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Could anyone tell me when Office 2013 x64 may be supported? I am planning a summer roll out of Windows 7 x64 with Office 2013 x64. Or would I be better off with Office 2013 32 bit?
Michael Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Microsoft certainly recommended Office 2010 x86 rather than Office 2010 x64. I'm not sure if this is still the case with the latest Office 2013.
FN-GM Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Office 2013 isnt supported at all see attached.SIMS_Technical_Roadmap_17910.pdf
Michael Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 That PDF was created exactly a year ago, but I suspect Office 2013 x86 will probably work fine. Perform some tests before deploying a new image.
Paid_Peanuts Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 If Microsoft still recommend Office x86 why bother with x64? Surely this must have changed now? I thought they were gearing everything up toward x64? I haven't seen or can find anything from SIMS.net about the support for Office 2013. You'd hope that by the summer they would have support... ?
Rawns Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) Supported from the SIMS Autumn 2013 release: Stick with 32-bit Office through like Microsoft recommend. Your more likely to have reporting issues with SIMS and 64-bit Office, plus there is really no need what so ever for the 64-bit unless you are working in stupidly MASSIVE spreadsheets in Excel. @FN-GM - That roadmap is out of date, an updated Capita Technical Roadmap (Jan 2013) is available on SupportNet under 17910. number34 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 My desktop was replaced over Easter with one running Windows 7 64 bit and Office 2013 64 bit. The only problem I have had so far is with individual reports where the tags appear when I have edited a template. Running a spell check and verifying has cured that. I know it is not supported but see no need to change to 32 bit version for now.
number34 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Seems to happen much more now. Every little change seems to require it.
Sylv3r Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Im currently running the Spring 2013 release on my Machine with Office 2013 32bit with no issues. It's not officially supported currently, but you shouldn't have any major issues if you choose to use it now.
CAM Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Seems to happen much more now. Every little change seems to require it. I've run Office 2007 32bit in two different schools and both suffered exactly the same issue.
NorthernSands Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I use Windows 8 and Office 2013 64Bit. Office appears to work fine. The only niggle is when you run a report bound for Excel, it launches an Excel window and shows you it filling in the data. This then closes and Excel opens again with the final report. The filling in Excel window is meant to be hidden. MS still recommend only using 32Bit Office. Or at least it still says that when downloading Office 2013 via VLSC. And yes, the tagging issue with Individual Reports has been around for at least 2 years I think.
