kennysarmy Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 For example : It's a Miracle! This is a 4 minute clip and it is taking around 4 minutes for the video place-holder to go from a black screen to the preview screen with the play button. I initially thought it was being filtered, but RM have confirmred not. I am on the latest flash player version and have tested on 32bit and 64bit windows 7 computers. Can anyone else confirm they are or are not seeing the issue I am having. Thanks. 1
kennysarmy Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 If I click the IE embedded realplayer download this video button, the video downloads in seconds...
kennysarmy Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Oh and I've also tried going through our swgfl proxy as well as our internal smoothwall....
JJonas Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Working fine for me on Linux, but thanks for the new PSHE resource.
kennysarmy Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 I've pinged an email to their support address, see what they have to say....
timbo343 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 can i just add my point in this.. We too are having the same problem going through our smoothwall. It worked fine when we had websense in place, thank god - no pun intended with relation to the site - someone else is having the same problem. I thought it was just us. If you look at the source code for the site, you will see the mp4 link. This URL works fine but the flash on the main site doesnt.
timbo343 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 @kennysarmy can you test franais eXtra - French eXtra to see if you get the sound to work please. I think it might be the same problem.
Achandler Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I have tried today, never even seen the website before. We use Smoothwall, the site works fine through Firefox and Chrome, but not IE.
kennysarmy Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 @kennysarmy can you test franais eXtra - French eXtra to see if you get the sound to work please. I think it might be the same problem. Haha - what sound? Am I meant to click something or does it auto play the sound? Under the text "exercise 1 of 11" I see a broken image link too....
timbo343 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) Just tried the french site through FF and that works through a smoothie, so does truetube.co.uk. Looks like IE is having a major problem with these files. I have attached some screen shots for the french site.. Using IE version 10. Edited May 2, 2013 by timbo343
timbo343 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 If you leave the videos on truetube to load for long enough, they load but thats not ideal.
kennysarmy Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Truetube support page states: Our films will try to play using HTML5 in the first instance, but will fall back to Flash if your browser is not HTML5 compliant. But I always thought IE9 WAS HTML5 compliant...
timbo343 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) Im running IE10 and it still doesn't work.. strange.. Also, i can confirm that the dolphin browser on android plays the files too. Just found this comparison http://html5test.com/compare/browser/ie10/ie09/chrome26.html Edited May 2, 2013 by timbo343
timbo343 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) Ah, ha! try running the site in compatibility mode, that works. As for the French site, compatibility mode doesnt work. Edited May 2, 2013 by timbo343 1
kennysarmy Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Ah, ha! try running the site in compatibility mode, that works. As for the French site, compatibility mode doesnt work. Compat. mode it is then
kennysarmy Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 @kennysarmy can you test franais eXtra - French eXtra to see if you get the sound to work please. I think it might be the same problem. I just popped back to the tab your link opened and now there is an embedded player.....took its time appearing....tested with compatibility mode and it still does not appear quickly as it should. Sorry
timbo343 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 No worries, it does take time to load, but when i don't go through the smoothie it works a charm... strange.. Even as network admin and no filtering going through the smoothwall the plugin takes ages to load.
tom_newton Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Have confirmed - there IS a workaround which was tested today - ask support and quote bug ref 5825
timbo343 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Thanks @tom_newton. What about the schools who are in a contract with the LEA and not supposed to contact support directly
Edu-IT Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Is the fix by way of an update or something you can share?
tom_newton Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I will see if I can get the lowdown on how exactly it should be done, it is as well to bother me about this, that way I will be reminded to dig it out! :-) Back in the office tomorrow so hopefully have chance to collar the right person
tom_newton Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 This comes with a health warning: apply it to too many sites and it will slow things down, as it messes with the closing of connections - so please use the policy tools to narrow down the application of this rule: Create a new user defined category in Guardian > Policy objects > User defined give it a name and click Advanced. Then, in the "Headers to override" section, add: Connection: close Proxy-Connection: close and save. Now, create a second category for problem sites, file extensions and the like. Try to be specific, as the modification will likely harm proxy performance due to it forcing the client to reopen the connection after every request with these headers. Finally, create a content mod policy in Guardian > Content modification > Manage policies, matching the "What" you created second and applying the content mod you created first in the Action, feel free to set the "Who" and "Where" to make the match even more specific.
