My Y10 daughter brought home a form from school today - giving her the option to find a weeks work experience. She doesn't want to waste the opportunity and would like to find something useful for science, geography or astronomy. Any really useful suggestions please guys and galls? Edited by speckytecky

How about a different local school - helping in the science lab?

Where are you? There may be a science centre or somesuch near by - we have the Intech centre at Winchester.

My eldest is studying Geography BSc at Lancaster having done A Level Maths, Geography and Biology... she also did AS Further Maths

She did work experience at a Chartered Accountants and two law firms (one employment law, the other aviation law)

To be honest, subject specific work experience or the quality of the employer is not important, it's the experience of actually working. You can get an apparently very good placement, but if all you did was photocopying or making tea then you can't easily write about how the work benefitted you in your UCAS personal statement. With good work experience, you can use it to show how you developed interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, planning skills, working to a deadline or whatever.
