We've recently set up an email address which we now redirect all sales calls and email queries to which then has a permanent auto responder which says:

Thanks for mailling our School.

We receive around 100 spam emails and 10 sales calls per day.

If we wish to use your product or contact you further we will do so.

If you attempt to make further email contact using another school email address we will blacklist your domain.

Surely most mails are sent from a system that is not normally monitored?

Yes but we also get lots of cold calling - our approach is to say we are too busy and to email us....

We have an email address that we give to sales people. Its a public folder and I check it when I think about it, about once a month. As regards sales calls, we have a great receptionist that rings me twice (so she's tried!) for what sounds like sales and longer for people who sound legitimate. I then pick up and make a decision to either put them through or ask her to tell them to email the sales email address. Works quite well here.

If any sales company get particularly frequent at calling, I blacklist their number in the phone system so they can never call again.
