Hi

I have a school who is trying to setup FMS for BACS payments.

As part of this, FMS wants you to put in SMTP settings so it can send out remittance advice. The school uses Google Apps for their school email!

The settings you put in for this are just smtp.gmail.com with a port number of 465 or 587. You then tick a box saying it needs authentication and you enter your email address and password. Unfortunately, when you press Test Settings, it doesnt work.

I have a feeling it may be to do with Google wanting an SSL connection and FMS not knowing what that is but i don't really know for sure.

Any ideas?

when the BACS run is run the emails are generated on the FMS workstation not the FMS server, this machine needs to be able to connect out of the firewall to send the emails.

Thread Zombie!

I know this thread is almost a year old, However we are also trying to use FMS email with Google apps smtp. I can't get it to work. We also have paper cut the uses Google SMTP server to email report and that works fine (after adding a firewall rule).

I can't get FMS BACS working to save my life!

Just wanted to know if you guys found a fix to your issues.

BUMP***

We have the same issue here on our network. One of our finance team need this setup and wondered if someone could point me in the right direction. We use Gmail as our college email system and have our own domain.

Would firewall settings prevent this? Would our smoothwall need some entries around smtp?

I'm currently looking into this but i'm not getting anywhere.

Thanks

Lee

Hey,

I know this thread is pretty old, but I was having this exact issue. My solution was to enable "less secure apps" for the user in G-Suite. You can do this by either going here while logged in to Chrome as the user. Or by logging on the G-Suite admin console and going to Security > Basic Settings > Less Secure Apps Access.

If in an LGfL school, you may need to request a mail relay rule be set up using their SMTP server.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Dan
