Yeah it went into special measure a couple years before I got here. It's now a specialist science college - apparently ranks as 'quite good' on a national scale. I'm afraid I can't see much past the 'kids weren't like this when i was at school' cliché.

It's not bad though, Salary's ok, team of 3 techies and an admin assistant for 1700 kids and 200 staff. I'm the assistant network manager - so the one in the middle.... I do have a bit of a 3 year itch now though... I wonder what the average length of sentance is for an it techie in education?

Hi Adam

I am Limehurst in Loughborough :) nearly 4 years on that note next term we (as in work not edugeek) may arrange some get togetherS planned for Leicestershire techies got to get go ahead from people. Maybe a informal thing to start with...

The problem is that it is often easier to get a group of people together regionally and add a few extras from outside the area than go for a major meet.

Then again ... even that is hard.

I thought we were trying to discourage regional Edugeeking, and go for a more holistic approach!

lol

Slightly misinformed stewart :)

First regional thing is a school thing we are doing nothing to do with edugeek...

But on edugeek.net thing and local side of stuff official line we encourge local meetup's and will support them in any way we can and would prefer to go that route than have lots of large conferences..

But we are not going to have sub forums for each area of the country as was discussed recently for various good reasons..

But local edugeek meetups is one area we want to investigate in next 12 months..

Hope that clears things up.

Would someone like myself be welcomed as i work for a 3rd party supplier and not a individual school.

Just like you are welcome here on the forum, I'd imagine you'd be just as welcome to go to a meetup.

I'm under the impression that the only suppliers on this forum that people tend to not welcome or dislike are those who twist the facts about who they work for or have relations with or otherwise solely use the forum to promote their product(s) and nothing else. You don't do any of that.

Hi

It all depends on few things I think my plan is to do a edugeek meetup of some kind and something based for the school first one more merry etc. Second one depends who/what runs it if we as school run it should be no problem but if a '3rd party' for example some department in lea ran it then they might have issue with it and would be their choice etc.

So lets start edugeek meetup ball rolling as to say how about meeting up one late afternoon/ early evening (3-4ish) somewhere for a drink.

If we find somewhere that is fairly quite in Leicester city centre as most central place to all of us.

Wow, I didn't expect all this to come out of this post.... good work you lot!

any decent jobs down northants way tony? for edu ict folk obviously...?

Decent = well paid? or decent = fun?

It is relatively quiet at the moment being honest ... but if I hear of anything (or if other Northants members do) I will put it on the Jobs forum.

Well, good as in well paid i suppose. my evening & weekend job is the fun bit, so edu IT just needs to pay the bills.
