Unlocking the bootloader and rooting the phone was the first thing I did to my Nexus 4 since there are lots of really useful apps that either require root (like AdAway, DataSync, GMusicFS, Market Helper and Multi-User App Share) or are better with root (like Cerberus Anti-Theft and Carbon Backup).

If it was me I would get the Galaxy S3 or 4 when it is out. The overlay and apps from Samsung are far superior to the HTC ones. I used to have a nexus and HTC Desire HD so have a good angle on it.
CyberNerd Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 i have a motorola razor I and so far iam pleased, not quite as big as other smart phones but i see this an advantage, also its something slightly different to the usual choices. decent battery life, as for the performance i dont really use all the features of smart phones but the UI is smooth and the screen is nice. I also have a razrI ( XT890 ) and concur that it's a really good phone

My main concern with Samsung is their inability to write software without major bugs in it. The hardware seems quite nice though. Samsung under fire over copy-paste bricking Root exploit on Exynos 4 devices Nasty Galaxy S3 Factory Reset Bug (a.k.a remote USSD attack) eMMC /data corruption bug You also have Kies (which is awful) and their poor relationship with third-party developers (like CyanogenMod). I have 64GB SD card in my Galaxy II + the 12GB internal and I still want more. 16GB currently isn't too much of an issue for me since I install games on my Nexus 10 and use Spotify/Google Music for music, but you are right that more storage is better - whether that's built-in, via a microSD card or both. Sadly, Nexus devices will never have microSD slots. Isn't it about time we had 64GB and 128GB smartphones as standard from all manufacturers? The flash memory they use in mobile devices is dirt cheap. 32GB really should be the minimum these days. Edited March 1, 2013 by Arthur

I rooted my previous Android phones but it was always such a chore and seemed to cause small issues so now I prefer to stick with what's already on there

Danp Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 Ruled out the W8 Nokia. Top of the list is the new HTC One that's coming in a few weeks or the Sony Z thingy. The Sony is huge though. Another option is a £10 sim from GiffGaff and buy a Nexus 4

Its awesome! It also uses the SD card for storage so no space problems. Latest version 3.3 requires 4EXT recovery though, but 4EXT recovery is awesome as well. 1

(12 * 24) + 280 = £568 TCO; (15.50 * 24) + 105 on o2 = £477 TCO. That only worked because of the offer, mind, but you can't just assume buying it from Google and sticking a SIM in is cheapest (it's certainly not quickest)
Neil-Millgate Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Been well and truly put off Samsung by the Galaxy S2 that I still have until contract is up in Dec. Even on power saving mode with all 3g, wireless, bluetooth turned off its still dead by the time I get home. I am not on it all day or anything like it but barely getting 9hrs out of a full charge! I quite fancy an HTC Win8 phone next.....
