Flooding!

Down here in Berkshire, most schools are closing early for the summer as we have massive flooding here! I know that one primary school in one of the villages is completely flooded and the pupils and staff are garrisoned in the hall for possibly the night!

Flooded here this morning and school was closed by 11am, caretakers turned the power off without warning !. Serverroom leaked a bit but lucklily no damage.

We were booted out on tuesday afternoon

 

STUDENTS had to be evacuated from their school after a flash storm caused its sewerage system to overflow.

 

Bishop Barrington School, Sports with Mathematics College on Woodhouse Lane, Bishop Auckland was just one victim of the torrential downpour which struck parts of the North-East.

 

Bruce Guthrie, head teacher at Bishop Barrington, said: "This is the worst flood we have had. The toilets have overflowed in three of the downstairs bathrooms causing a health and safety problem, which is why we had to send the students home.

 

"The school grounds are totally flooded at the entrance and back yard and water has entered one of the main entrances and is nearly a foot deep.

 

"A jet wash team from the local authority will sort out the problem tomorrow and I am just pleased that it is the end of term so education hasn't been affected too badly."

 

Students will be off school on Wednesday while the problem is resolved.

Reasonably sunny here!! Rained a bit last night but nothing unusual!!!

School was ok as it seems to be a bit higher than the street, car parks badly flooded, and we had a flash flood taking cars away on the road by the school. Kids had to be kept back for a few hours.

Houses in the area of the school are still in a few feet of water

 

My house is luckily on high ground but my garage is badly flooded. Lost a load of old magazines but its nothing compared to what some people have lost

Its honestly been one of the most tiring days of my life, feel like I went to work 2 days ago.

Although im just lucky I live close, anyone who had to use the A4 or M4 probably still isnt home

Our server room is 3 feet below ground level... If we flooded, it'd be game over for our rack!

Midget: no, but there's an inflatable raft full of DDS4 tapes in the server room ;-P

My wife's school got sent home at lunchtime on Friday as the buildings were flooded, but the roads outside the school were so bad that the Police had closed them, which made going home something of a challenge!

 

I worked from home on Friday afternoon as I wanted to be there in case it started getting "damp underfoot", but thankfully the water levels stopped about 6 inches short of our front door.

 

To answer Midget's question, yes we do keep offsite backups, but since the server room is 3 floors up, if that got wet we'd have bigger problems to worry about!

I ask because on my travels up to Thatcham on Friday night, not sure that was a good idea! Thankfully I drive a motorcycle, so traffic wasn't so much of an issue! I used the road past the Kennet School, the road which looks like a river in the images above!

 

Well, the road was clear, luckily, but getting to the house I was visiting wasn't so much of an easy task!

 

You’ll be glad to know, after walking halfway there, I got there eventually. Ok, so back to the question ‘sidewinder’, is that outside the Kennet School in Thatcham?

No flooding in our school been a few heavy rainfalls but nothing major - in fact its glorious sunshine here at the moment

We had some flooding, but lovely weather this morning!! Bring on the summer!!
