OK so here is the strangest windows glitch I have seen yet...

I have a system running XP Home and every time windows starts the start menu pops up.

I have disabled everything I can but still it pops up...

So far the intraweb has failed to even find anybody else with the same thing...so over to you guys...any ideas?

That is odd indeed, I hardly see how its a problem though, it seems however that you are unique, as I'e been trawling the web also, and can't find anything on this!

Ditto.

Although doesn't this happen when you first run XP after an install? Then it should not do it again.

I know that this happens after you setup an RM machine but not sure about vanilla. :)

Is the windows key stuck?

Hmm don't think that's it, if the key was stuck then the menu wouldn't pop up - the menu pops up when the key is released, try holding the key down and you'll see.

Sounds like a registry entry isn't being written/alterred so things each start is first boot.

Yeah that's what I was alluding to. Wonder if there are any implications is that's true?

I have realised that there are other strange thing happening on this machine.

At the moment it seems to be caused by the suer installing a new HP all-in-one and the dodgy software supplied with it. I have found lots of reported problems with the same stuff.

The main problem I have so far found that using msconfig gives an error message about needing to login as administrator to make changes (I am logged like that already).

I am going to try to uninstall the HP stuff (which I gather is a bit like trying to uninstall Norton products!) and see what happens.
