GTX Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Hi Guys. This is my first post on the forum so i hope you can help me get this problem sorted. We ordered 10 x HP DC770 refurbished from a company we have used before. They state on the NIC that it can run at 1gbps (also on the website). I replaced a laptop with one of the new systems but it will only run at 100mbps. I first thought it could of been a port problem so i left it and moved onto the next one. 5 PC's later they are all running at 100mbps. The laptops that they replaced all ran at 1gpbs. Iv even gone to our switches and plugged the PC's directly into them and still only getting 100mbps with cat 5e and cat 6. It will only stay on 1gbps for around 6 seconds then has a fit and changes back to 100mbps. i'm 100% sure the switches are 1gbps Drivers upto date.. What else can be the problem?
Steve21 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 If you go into control panel, network adapters blahblah, and go into the configuration settings for the adapter, does it have it set under speed/duplex? Sometimes if it's set to auto etc it'll only connect at other speeds on bootup. Might be worth seeing what it's set to currently. Steve

DMcCoy Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 All 3 options (Mini tower, SFF, USFF) all list 1Gb intel NIC as being onboard
FN-GM Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 A quick google shows the Netgear as gigabit. Try different versions of the driver.

Michael Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 It's definitely a gigabit adapter. Try selecting Auto-negotiate 1000Mbps. I presume also that your switches are configured to auto 1000 and not force 1000. It does make a difference.

GTX Posted March 5, 2013 Author Posted March 5, 2013 Well, A little update for you all. Windows 7 works fine on gigabit. Any ideas why this would happen? I know for 100% it isnt our network so it must be XP its self. Let the games begin. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
