Kyle Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Does anyone know of any software that can turn off Internet in all rooms for a set period of time. We have a lot if problems with games abuse during tutor time!
john Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 You not have Smoothwall? If you did you could do a time filter for all rooms / student users to ban the net? That also has rooms in it that you can play with If not do you have something like Impero that allows Net revocation? 1
twin--turbo Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 What is your firewall/proxy device? ABtutor is a very cost effective solution over Imperio/NetSupport. We used to "RollOurOwn" with a squid Proxy, some custom scripts and a web page. Unless the teacher turned it on the internet was off. Was hated by staff for about 3 weeks until they "GOT IT" and then loved for 5 years until we moved to our new network and the functionality was lost. 2 years on we may just have got NetSupport able to do it for us. Asgard Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 We have an in-house solution that may work. Staff can call up a web page and turn off the Internet for that room - when the block is initiated it turns on a rule in Microsoft ISA. We are actually re-writing it for TMG, but it may be of use, drop me a mail [email protected] and I'll send it through if its relevant
enjay Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Impero, NetSupport, ABTutor will all do this, a cheaper option might be to see if your filtering server can do timed sessions - our RM Smartcache can have certain filters applied and certain times of day and not others, allowing us to relax filtering rules at lunchtime. That would also have the advantage of being hands-off, just set it up and then forget about it.
Scottyboy99 Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 We have to do this during controlled assessments and use LanSchool to limit web on particular machines. You can allow certain websites too which is useful, e.g. you can allow your VLE or OWA etc.
rad Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 RM have RM tutor. It goes the same job as others but is teacher controlled per room.
