Remote Support

Does anyone know of any pchelpware style apps that allow you to run your own repeater on say your website for providing support when everyone is behind a natting router?

 

The repeater for pchelpware runs on windows so it's not an option and their provided one can be a bit flaky apparently.

 

Alternatively any open source web based live help systems that have a remote access portion that I could install on my website?

Logmein do a 'for pay' remote help system built on top of their freeware remote login tools.

Teamviewer is pretty good and free!

You could set up UltraVNC in listen mode on your home pc and package a single click connector that will start up a control connection to their pc and will traverse their NATed connection easily.

Don't have internet at home.

I use ntrsupport. They have a hosted solution and one where you can install in on your own web server.

 

Basicly if you visit the support pages of the company I work for you can then click on a button which allows you to talk to one of the techie's who then can take control your PC via an Active X or exe with your permission.

 

So far the hosted solution has been a god send and has paid for it self!.

Another alternative is the paid for serivce offered by Fog Creek with Copilot (https://www.copilot.com/)

Yeah I've seen copilot before followed the blogs when they were making it.

 

It's not an expensive solution and I think I'll try out the free trial and see how it goes.

 

There are lots of ultravnc packages but the docs on most are poor.

We looked at many different solutions and went with GoToAssist by Citrix (http://www.gotoassist.com/) It's great product and never fails us, it's not really that cheap but the package you get is superb.

Team Viewer is brilliant! I have always installed LogMeIn on any machines I work on. This allows me to support them once in use! Problem with this is I often get random calls from friends of friends requiring support. Of course, these clients don't have LogMeIn installed.

 

Team Viewer solves this problem allowing me support even those clients! Top Banana Glenn!
