As some of you know I am an anti-apple and hate it to death.

 

But this has impressed me with regards to managing apps.

 

Meraki Systems Manager

 

Plus its free!!

I was that impressed! it also supports managing remote Apps for Windows etc, you can install, track and trace all sorts! I liked it!

Very cool and for pc's too seems ideal for staff laptops.

Just installed it on a client pc and so far it hasn't checked in with the meraki dashboard wondering if maybe somethign in smoothie is blocking it but can't find any info on the meraki pages about what ports etc... it uses.

 

Looks like it also used vnc for remote desktop access to clients.

Ah it just worked here - But we have all outbound access open and no proxy.

 

Should be fairly easy in the smoothie to determine what it is trying to do though.

From what I can see it seems to do what is says on the tin!

@plexer - if you know the IP of the ipad just stick it in the web-filter live log and see if it is blocking anything - if nothing is hitting it there then under firewall should do it.

Done that and nothing is displayed that looks relevant to the meraki nothing at all under firewall but then as this is SWG-1200 there probably wouldn't./

 

I restarted the meraki service just to see if it would kick anything off.

Could prevent both ways. if the client has to report in to the web and vice versa. We have all outbound connections enabled but didn't setup anything incoming.

I would think the architecture is that the client talks to the meraki web servers and not the other way round.

 

I've just installed it on my PC which has a different direct internet connection via a smoothwall firewall install and it instantly reported itself so something being blocked possibly by or education internet supplier.

 

Trouble is getting that info from meraki.

Installed and working ok here through our LEA connection.

 

The iOS control is quite interesting, if a little basic at the moment. Could come in handy, definitely.

yes it will be - they use Salesforce for all the KB stuff just like Watchguard and others.

 

EDIT: thats for there wireless AP as they have a cloud based controller so you can just send a AP to somebody and they can plugin and it finds the controller and can be configured remotely. Which is why we where looking to start with.

Yeah I read it and saw it was talking about the AP's but I was on the phone to the meraki guy for 20 minutes and that's the article he's linked me to.

I've just emailed him back to check but as you're still connecting into the meraki cloud infrastructure it could be that it's the same settings.
