Dos_Box Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Its that time of year again and it appears that we have quite a few white goods we can use as prizes. I'm not sure exactly what we have got, but they are quality items and we shall let you know what these are ASAP. To enter this years competition all I want you to do is take a well know Christmas carol and re write it in an IT theme. The better relatign to schools it is the better it will be marked. Please note that site admins and mods are not allowed to take part in this, but mods will have their own competition set up shortly.
FN-GM Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 God that’s going to be so hard.... There was a post recently about the 12 days of Christmas that relates to ICT to stop cheaters maybe you should ban phrases used in the posts unless you are the person who posts them. Z
Dos_Box Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 Silent night. Holy Night Servers died, nothings right. Backups stuffed and the switches alight. etc etc etc. See easy.
Edu-IT Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Based on Rocking Around The Christmas Tree. This helped me to create it. Standing around the Dell server Watching the pretty lights flash away, Sims update has failed, Sophos has crashed, And the staff have been moaning all day. Keyboard has broken, can you come help? Printer is jammed, paper in the bin, Staff on the phone, emails are coming, You just cannot win. You’re just hammering away at command prompt, getting absolutely nowhere Kids come knocking at the door, Forgotton my password, what do I do? Wireless network isn’t functioning Router hasn’t been switched on, Pupils are messing, making it worse, Breaking it again when you are gone. Time to go home but that isn’t going to happen just yet, Office is a mess and phone is ringing, Can you come and install some software? Half past seven arrives and everything done Lists made ready for the following day, First job on the list is an easy one , Turn off the phone and ignore, ignore, ignore emails.
mrtechsystems Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 lol I will have to get the think cap on to beat that one
GrumbleDook Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 And no ... erm ... borrowing from Filk.com (or other filk archives!)
Edu-IT Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Are you allowed to enter more than once if you have nothing better to do?
maniac Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 does it have to be a carol, or can we broaden it to christmas songs? e.g. Wizard - i wish it could be christmas everyday is hardly a carol, but could have some quality lyrics put to it. Mike.
maniac Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 OK, just spent the last 20 minutes writing this. It's to the tune of 'Away in a manger' and even has the right number of verses it does ====================== Somewhere in a dark room, Away out of sight, the poor system admin, he works though the night. The website has crashed, and the servers are down, the poor system admin, he wears a big frown. Thou christmas is looming, Not one person thinks, If they web site's not working, They just kick up a stink. The poor system admin, just wants to go home, but he knows if he does that, they'll be on the phone. As long as it's working, then no one else cares, but the poor system admin, he's starting to swear. The systems back up now, Not one word of praise, But that's what we're used to, and they say it pays? =============== Enjoy! Mike.

Mike. Good point. The song I chose isn't a carol. Does that mean I have wasted forty minutes? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7KjwyPwEWE You better not knock, You better not ring, You better not email, I’m not in the mood, Updating Windows XP again, Backing up the documents, I really want to be going home right now. I’m shutting the door Ignoring the kids, Putting my feet up for a few minutes, Until I get interrupted again, No doubt the phone is going to ring, I just can’t seem to drink my tea. They think I don’t do anything That equipment manages itself, But when things really go wrong, I always come to the rescue. I’ve got my own PC It’s not particularly good, It needs to be replaced, But the budget won’t stretch, I’m overworked and underpaid, But I enjoy doing what I do, If only I could find time to relax. The printer is jammed The signal is rubbish, The patch panels broke, But I just have to manage, I’m an IT technician, I really enjoy my work, But sometimes people test my patience.
maniac Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 @ FN-Greatermanchester Not recently, but I am planning some website maintenance over christmas, lets hope it all goes to plan Mike.
witch Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Er...white goods are actually things like washing machines, tumble driers, freezers and the like Did you really mean that? I didn't think RM made dishwashers!
FN-GM Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 (edited) That's where you are wrong! http://www.fleming-network.co.uk/other/2.jpg Edited April 12, 2008 by FN-Greatermanchester

FN-GM Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Nice! RM Clothes Cleaner 3 - suppose you have to buy Wash licences for each garment of clothing you want to clean? Do you put your cloths in a dishwasher lmao? Z
webman Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Oh yes, all the time. What's the point of having 2 electrical things to do the same sort of thing when one will do albeit with compromises?
FN-GM Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Just found out they do cookers as well http://www.fleming-network.co.uk/other/cooker.jpg

MkII Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Cooks the dinner for you but you get called names by people who use a 'proper' cooker

Mike. I'm guessing that the answer to this is no since nobody has stated otherwise? I've got a couple more songs in mind which I would like to write lyrics for, is that allowed too? When does this competition end? I think I'm taking this too seriously.
tech_guy Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I was gonna stick the RM logo on a picture of a vibrator with nails knocked through it but then thought better of it.........
john Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Cooks the dinner for you but you get called names by people who use a 'proper' cooker Yeah you can't beat a real world Aga, a real proper cooker. Mine even has an RJ45 connection on it
GrumbleDook Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Just to respond to the comment about carols ... nope, not just carols ... christmas songs that are well known chrimbo hits and likely to appear on a 'surely this is something that sounds like Christmas' album. This means you can include "I watched Linus coding ooooon a Mac" (I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus), or "Twas the night of the BETT show and all through the hall, yes the geeks were a-stirring, and stood by our stall" (The night before Christmas). Happy filking! The competition will run until Christmas Eve when our illustrious demi-god will announce the winner(s).
