The knock on effect of this decision is going to be pretty huge. The government's building projects are pretty much the only things keeping the construction industry from collapsing in under itself.

Even during difficult economic times, capital spending should be maintained, as it employs a massive number of people - which we cannot afford to be collecting benefits due to unemployment.

I just love the line on this page that says "They have been promised this investment and this is a very uncertain time for teachers, parents and kids."

Forget the teachers, parents and kids... what about all the tuped staff that know nothing about their jobs!! Now thats more like uncertain times!!

Sure support staff NEVER get thought about in any of this....

Sorry... Damn rubbishy mondays :D

Carshalton High School for Girls is just up the road from me, did get offered a Dupty Network Manager interview, turned it down once I knew they were gonna go down the BSF route.

I am under BSF and i am happy that all that wasted TAX payer money will be used for something else instead of waste it without improving anything... apart from the looks... they look good from the outside... that's all...

Thank you! i couldnt bear it any more...

Don't get too carried away... there are still an awful lot of schools & LAs that have reached financial close & for them BSF will continue..... plus the Govt may choose to scale back or streamline the process rather than 'can' it altogether.

Remember that many of the early wave schools were in NewLabour strongholds & there are plenty of ConDem MPs lobbying for new schools in their constituencies now, mindful of their voters who might blame them if their children have to finish their education in crumbling leaky schools & temporary classrooms because of the Govt's scorched earth policies...

The rumour is the Education Secretary is due to announce the fate of BSF to Parliament at 4:30pm today & the story is already leaked to the press.......

I'll be interested to see how this pans out. Are they scrapping the scheme completely (apart from the ones in an advanced stage) or simply changing the way it will work?

Typically the muppets on the Sky News forum are on slagging off the lib-con alliance, conveniently forgetting it was the labour government who 'spent' this money even though it didn't exist knowing full well the next government would take the flak for cancelling it!

No information available on exactly what schools are happening. Its resorted to MPs asking about each schools in their areas.

It seems financial close = BSF still happening.

Why happens if new conservative academy status has also been applied for? (if BSF goes ahead)

EDIT: BSF stopped.

We are also on the scrapped list. Still not sure if it's a good or a bad thing for us, i.e it may have been nice to work for an "IT" company with a clear career progression path and of course, the investment in equipment is gone. However for the time being at least, it's nice that a lot of the uncertainty and waiting has gone and keeping our independence is a big win. Edited by DrCheese

Im rather confused now... our school was has been stopped according to the list, but 2 sample schools are still awaiting discussion.. we were due to tuped in auguest this year now that this has happened, if the samples schools go ahead are they expecting us to still tuped over or remain independent... anyone know..

I'm kinda hoping that with only a few schools in the city under discussion, the rest canceled that RM will decide not to go ahead due to making a loss on the service than a profit. We can live in hope right?...
