However, everyone needs a break and this morning I managed to sysprep a clean profile following information I found on the internet. I created a brand new unattend.xml file and expected the worst - it worked first time and I managed to copy the default profile over to our profile server.
I've changed the ntuser.dat to ntuser.man and now feel I am further on than before.

Currently looking into writing a seek assistance program as the only software packages that seem to do it cost the earth and I have to admit AB tutor and IntelliAdmin do everything else I need. One of my jobs each week is to assemble the school's display that is shown above reception. This typically involves a slideshow of images, which this week was provided by staff who were on a ski trip.

We've had some call-outs for projector issues and computers not logging on but apart from that everything seems to be working as it should.

I'm not sure how much this will affect us. Either, they'll avoid IT like the plague for more 'reliable' activities or they'll use IT to try and impress inspectors and consequently they'll want everything suddenly fixed.
It occurs to me, that instead of outsourcing IT support, the government could have created a subsection of Ofsted to specifically inspect ICT provision. Seems to me that would have been a better idea.
We deployed to the Staff Room Windows 7 the other day; my technician (Fatmas) has been playing with MSDT and been syspreping and capturing our base image nicely.
Something was bothering me though, logon times seemed very long. And it wasn't down to the known issue with Wallpaper as the hotfix was part of our image. As soon as the GPO that installed the Printer was enabled, logon times where well over 30 seconds. Without the GPO enabled, logon time was about or less than 10 secs.
