Hotfix KB2525332 - Delay when Offline Files and Folder Redirection are Used
This started happening to our laptop users occasionally a while ago and adding up to four minutes to the logons, this patch solved it instantly. You end up with a long delay at the "Redirecting Folders" stage. Well worth the download if your setup is like our and you encounter this:
You encounter a long logon time after you enable the "Do not automatically make redirected folders available offline" Group Policy setting in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
After extracting the file you can use this in a startup or shutdown script to deploy it silently behind the scenes:

Just out of curiosity (I'm about to roll out W7 to all shortly), why would you not automatically make redirected folders available offline?

Yeap, it is to do with the way we have the policies setup to cope with teachers loging on to workstations and to laptops but only syncing on the laptops.

KB2525332 is one of the twenty post-SP1 performance-related hotfixes listed here. SP2 can't come soon enough!

is there an easy way to check if this is already installed?
we have a long login time. We use redirected documents and desktop for students but obvioulsy dont have offline files form them as they use a different laptop every period.

This would not be installed automaticly as it is an unpublished hotfix that has not been released through Windows Update, if you try to install it it will tell you if it is unneeded.

We dont have offline files but Im sure the "do not make offline files..." is set to enabled in GPO. (probably left over from some previous time)
I might try setting that to Not Defined first of all to see if that makes a difference.

Those hotfixes need to be installed manually, but you can either add them as packages in MDT or integrate them into your WIM image(s) via DISM after mounting them using ImageX. e.g.
