So... I know this has been covered in numerous threads of different natures and I have read loads about profiles in Windows 10, but I cannot find a decent way of sorting for my school environment. Currently; Win 7 Students are mandatory Most Staff are Roaming some sedentary users are local profiles Everyone has redirected folders to home drives. Requirements; Win 10 1809 EDu Reliable login experience with own customisations As fast login times as possible Minimal files left on desktops (if possible) I have ruled out mandatory for Win 10 as I read this is not supported or recommended by many. Roaming profiles are an option for staff, but I fear that profile storage size will mean slow login times for them... Which brings me on to my recent trials of UE-V. I am trying UE-V with local profiles but keep hitting walls. If I login to one machine and make changes to the taskbar (as Microsoft Documentation states to do) I can login to another machine and the change stays.... Great....But if the local profile is deleted from one machine the whole thing becomes unsynced and a complete mess. Local copies of profiles are going to fill my desktops very quickly unless I clear them out, hence this test. What is the answer? Just local profiles with re-directed everything to a home drive? I am getting rather frustrated with Win10 and would welcome any advice. I need to get this ready for this Summer... time is ticking! Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I'm currently putting together our Windows 10 Enterprise 1903 build and seem to have hit an issue with UWP apps, having spent almost a week working on this issue I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has encountered the same issue or has any tried and tested work-arounds from previous builds? Having used the excellent 'OneDriveMapper' powershell script for a number of years I decided to test the latest OneDrive client with 'Files on Demand' enabled, I want OneDrive to sign-in automatically for our users so I've followed documentation to allow our on-premises AD joined devices to perform a Hybrid Azure AD Join, which is a requirement for OneDrive client SSO. The majority of our users hotdesk or use computer labs so we still utilise Ye-Olde Roaming Profiles, we've been evaluating U-EV but there's a number of 'features' that have prevented us from rolling U-EV out, mainly surrounding Outlook client but also the amount of on-going work required managing & maintaining XML templates for U-EV. Anyhow, we're currently observing the following: Log on to a Windows 10 device with a new account that uses a roaming profile OneDrive signs-in automatically (SSO) as expected All UWP apps open and function correctly - eg. Calculator / Maps / Edge / Photos / Skype / Snip & Sketch / Sticky Notes / Voice Recorder / Weather etc ... Office 365 Applications (Word / Excel etc) are signed in (SSO) and function correctly Providing a locally cached copy of the roaming profile remains on the device you can login multiple times to the same device and everything works perfectly, however, if the locally cached profile is removed via GPO or if the user moves to another lab device, things start to fail ... If the locally cached profile has been removed or the user moves to another Windows 10 device OneDrive fails to sign-in - "We can't sync your OneDrive folder" UWP apps mostly fail to open or briefly flash up (attempt to open) and immediately close with the exception of: Maps / Edge / Skype / Sticky Notes Office 365 Applications show an exclamation mark against the account name - "Sorry, we can't get to your account right now. To fix this, please sign in again." I've also tried the above with an account that uses U-EV and get the exact same behaviour, all works fine initially with a fresh account and whilst there's a locally cached profile but if the locally cached profile is removed or the user moves to another device, things start falling apart. I assume this behaviour is due to the fact that UWP apps store information in the 'Local' part of a user profile ... but surely there's a way to make UWP apps work in a domain/hotdesk/lab environment? Any advice, assistance, thoughts gratefully received!

Hi All, Does anyone how to have the OneNote app login credentials synced using UE-V? I am running Win10 Edu 1809, currently testing and trialling for this summers deployment... I have tried all sorts of things to get this working, to no avail. It seems that MS are developing this app over Office OneNote, hence why it is our preferred option... Thanks in advance. Chris

I'm looking at UE-V at the mo. We're using Windows 10 1903 presently. I've got it working to a point, with the SettingPackages being created in the users home folder and it happily creates folders, etc and things like Fonts, Word wrap, etc in Notepad carry over. Settings in Word 2016 also copy over as well, but for some reason it's not copying over the list of Recent Documents in Office which is really the big thing I need this to do. I've got the default templates copied to a network share and they seem to register quite happily there. So, it appears to be working overall, but just not the Recent Documents. Interestingly, any documents saved to OneDrive from within an Office App do appear in the Recent Documents list, just nothing that has been saved to their home drives on the servers on-prem. What am I missing, do I need to edit the Office2016 Win32 Common template with something? Can't get Taskbar items to copy over as well, but I'm putting that down to our start menu .xml file which puts a File Explorer icon on the task bar but would like Teachers to be able to add their own stuff. TIA Pete

Hi All, First time posting! So hopefully someone can help I am having an issue setting up UE-V on win 10 edu 1709. I have been chasing my tail for the last few day to try and get some information on this error message I am getting and how to resolve it but with no luck. So has anyone here come across this issues? From the event log I can see this: "An error occurred in the ApplySettingsTemplateCatalog utility" Event ID: 1509 But it creates the folder in the userspace correctly but does not put any setting in the folder. Please if anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated as I am on a deadline to get this working before the 13th dec -Max

Hi, Not sure if anyone has come across this problem. I have tested on Local and Mandatory profiles. User A logs onto computer A with a local profile and customises all the settings they require. User A then logs onto computer B with a local profile and UE-V applies the settings but only for a brief 1 / 2 seconds (you see the desktop flash up then revert back to the original one). It then writes the reverted settings back to you UE-V share. So when user A logs back onto computer A they get the reverted settings. However if User A logs onto computer A and B at the same time and Customises changes on computer A changes are reflected on computer B. You can then logon to computer A or B and work with all changes. Until you logon to computer C.... :\ Its been a week and I am almost giving up with this! Thanks Ricky
