I don't think the toner collection service is mentioned on their web site (I certainly couldn't find it, but correct me if I am wrong). We just call them when the collection boxes are full and they send a man with a van. They collect far and wide as far as I understand. Lots of schools around here use them. Not sure about a certificate, but you could ask them. They provide GNAA collection boxes for free (see photo). We just chuck the empty carts in the box and call them when its full! Simples Andrew

We give all of our empties to The Great North Air Ambulance - Home | Great North Air Ambulance Service They provide boxes and collect for free, no sorting required. Not sure if they cover your area, but might be worth asking. A very worthy cause, in my opinion. Andrew

Any alternatives to Citrix
adhutton replied to andyturpie's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
We use Ericom - Ericom - Application & VDI Delivery, RDP Acceleration, Terminal Emulation Solutions Good and cheaper than Citrix. Andrew -
XP has been the best OS around in the last 13 years IMHO. Not perfect, but it endured. Others have been and gone, but none had the staying power of XP. It is now time for it to go, but like an old friend I will miss it with fond memories. Thanks for getting something right Microsoft. Andrew

Office 365 licensing. Any licensing experts out there?
adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Cloud Services
Where do I get the promo code from Alex? We have an Office ProPlus Open for Students license key as part of our MS EES agreement which is already in place. I tried using that, but it doesn't work. Any ideas? Cheers - Andrew -
We currently use Office 365 for student email and our license type is Exchange Online (Plan 1) for Students - Free. As part of our Microsoft EES agreement, we have O365 ProPlus for Student licenses. My question is, how do I apply the O365 ProPlus for Student licenses to our existing setup? I have been through all of the MS help screens, but it doesn't seem obvious? Anyone got any ideas? Cheers - Andrew

Anyone got an HP Officejet 7110 A3 Colour Inkjet printer? One of our D+T department's HP Business Inkjet 2800 printers has died and I need a replacement. The old 2800s will print on pretty much anything up to A3 size (Including card), but I need to know if a new HP Officejet 7110 is a suitable replacement? Any school users? Cheers_ Andrew

What on earth is going on with Northern Grid?
adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Another BAD day with Northern Grid! On and off at various times again today...apparently a possible DDoS attack on the BT network/JANET. When will this get sorted out???? Wouldn't you think that one of the biggest telecoms companies in the country (i.e. BT) would be able to fix this???? Andrew -
The (freezing) rain is coming down sideways here already and the wind is getting up! I hope we don't get any power outages during the night or any major water leaks!!!! Andrew

My wife has a 2010 Hyundi i10 which is excellent. She rides horses, so her cars are always full of mud and covered in crap, and this one has coped very well. The skip-on-wheels I call it She had a Citroen before that and that just fell to bits! The only negative with the i10 is the small wheels and she has needed quite a few sets of tyres, as they seem to wear out quite quickly. Apart from that, all good Andrew

Ok, maybe you are right James. I can only find Powershell stuff which we used when it was Live@Edu and not Office 365 (which we have now migrated over to) and I think I made the modifications back in our Live@Edu days. In the meantime I have found this which may help: CIAOPS: Disabling SkyDrive Pro in Office 365 Andrew -

I believe there are some Powershell commands you can run to make the changes. I will try and find my copy of the info. for you. Andrew -
We get the Ricoh cartridges for about £40 to £45 (ish) - Ex. VAT, and they do about 2,000 pages for the standard toner. I think there is a high capacity toner available, but we haven't had any of those yet so cannot comment on them. Andrew

We use the HP Laserjet P3015dn Mono Laser Printer for workgroup printing. They are good. You can pick them up for about £300 (or less) in many outlets. If you want something a bit cheaper, smaller, maybe for offices then these are good as well and Tesco have them reduced in price at the moment: Buy Ricoh SP 201N Laser Network Printer from our Laser Printers range - Tesco.com Andrew

What on earth is going on with Northern Grid?
adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Yep, we've been off for about 30 minutes today as well... I reported the outage to BT, but it took me about 20 minutes to get through on their helpline!!! We've also had nothing but bother with NGFL since they went over to BT. I wonder if there are any representatives of Northern Grid (NGFL) or BT corporate on here who would care to comment/update us on the situation? We certainly won't be staying with them once our current contract expires. Far too unreliable! Andrew -
Once you cancel Sky you could buy a Freesat+ box and plug it into the satellite feeds from your Sky dish. It will work out-of-the box with your Sky dish and allow you to record, pause live TV etc. for no subscription charges. You only get the Freesat (Freeview) channels, but there are quite a few good ones and some in HD. Andrew

adhutton replied to adhutton's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I know this is an old thread, but just wondered if any other Northern Grid/BT schools were having any Internet problems recently? Our connection has been poor (laggy/slow) now for a couple of weeks since their aborted firewall changeover on 9th January. Anyone else got issues? Cheers - Andrew -
