[video] BBC Reporter Breaks Unbreakable Phone
mpe replied to tech_guy's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
Calling something "unbreakable" is generally seen as a challenge. Anything that a BBC reporter can break is IMHO, hardly worthy of the name. Now if it was first given to a school then sent with a soldier to Afghanistan and made it back in one piece such a term might be justified. -
Weirdest thing you’ve ever been asked for by a staff/student in an IT office?

As in music or crisps? -

It probably needed to be ccleanered first though. -
Unless we also brought lots of Afghani militiamen so they could continue fighting a war and had all the logistics from somewhere as far away from Wiltshire as Afghanistan is from Britain it's likely to save quite a bit of money.
-
Depending how much it's currently costing currently we might save money quickly even if we needed book people (and cargo) on regular commercial flights.
-
The real irony being that a lot of public money goes into the private sector, certainly in sectors such as education and health. Through the likes of PPP, PFI, BSF, RBC, government contracts, consultants, etc, etc. No doubt through many other routes. In the case of a government (especially a national government) any kind of "contract" can revoked at will anyway.
-
The basic problem here is that these two parties are too similar, just that things havn't (yet) got quite as bad as the US. Which is, IMHO, part of the problem. This country is too often trying to emulate the US, warts and all, rather than trying to find the best examples from the rest of Europe.

What's to stop these people either waiting a year or calling their "bonuses" something else?

Apparently it dosn't apply to Parliment. Depends exactly what you cut. How unpopular would cutting managment in the NHS be? How bringing British soldiers home? There's also legalising drugs. Which would provide a revenue source, even without any special taxes or duties being applied. Against depends on how you do it. Cracking down on tax evasion and/or avoidance is likely to only be unpopular with a minority. As is having a more progressive income tax system. The first two are not mutually exclusive. Indeed anything which takes something out of the "black economy" and into the "white" is likely to do both at the same time. But that involves asking tough questions like "Are currently illegal drugs more intrinsically harmful than currently legal ones?" and "Is prohibition more or less harmful to society than the drug(s) in question?"

Depends what you mean by "serial" if it's RS232 then it will go a lot further than 15m (in some cases several km) you can also get USB to CAT5 units which will do at least 40m.

An explosion might be more appropriate for their being hoist with their own petards...

According to SWGfL this is "Pornography and Illegal or Age-Restricted Activity". "Later" equating to 20 odd years in some cases. And this is "Non-Educational Games". Wonder if they'll block the CEOP website

Doing such a thing might be acceptable to ferry the aircraft to a maintanance facility to have the inoperative engine replaced. (So long as the plane has 3 or more engines and only one is inoperative.) But a revenue flight is right out. It could have looked a lot better and they would have still been entitled to ground it If it needed 3 engines replacing before it was airworthy then no Line Aircraft Mechanic in his/her right mind would have released the plane otherwise. I fail to see the funny side of an aircrew so reckless or badly trained that they would even attempt to operate an aircraft in such a state.

If the product is a monopoly then having that kind of thing happen is probably in the interests of the supplier.

OpenVPN requires a single UDP port. I'm not sure what Server2003 requires. Are you behind a firewall which you do not control? e.g. with a RBC. In which case you may have issues using an IP protocol other than UDP, TCP (or ICMP).
-
The obvious question is how to the students find out about them? In the case of mailing lists it isn't exactly rocket science for RBC to sign up to them, etc.
-
Unless they do something to draw attention.e.g. complaining about something "not working" or doing things they most definitly shouldn't be doing. (Possibly complaining about being unable to do something they shouldn't be attempting in the first place.)
-
If you can get it working in the first place. It also likes to randomly update as well as wanting to "auto" update it's client on every single machine. Since the idea of having the client app stored in one place of the server is apparently beyond the comprehension of the Brainiacs who wrote this!

What's a "serial joystick"? You'd probaby be better off rewiring the joystick/pad

What are the oldest PCs you still use on your network?

It also isn't always the oldest equiptment which causes the most trouble either. -
Should they be able to do this considering that the first issue identified involves the operators breaking the law.

As well as being away from fiddling little (and not so little) fingers!

What's running on port 2323? Also what software is the machine auto starting, especially anything which other machines are not autostarting? -
IIRC they carried out some tests on Watchdog and were able to pay in cheques with signatures which obviously didn't match the name. So you may as well try paying it in.
