Thanks for the pointer, i read this https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/enrollment/device-group-mapping I understand how to create Categories, Create dynamic groups for each category and how to assign devices to the category. But... How can i assign a category to the device from the Enrollment section? I basically want to have it so that when i reset a device and re-enrol it i already have the S/N->catagory/name mapped such that everything is automatic.

Thanks for the reply. I dont think that will work for us, imagine we have an upstairs and downstairs set, I would like to be able to assign a name iPad-upstairs-01 to 30 then similar for upstairs. I then have a dynamic group for upstairs and downstairs with each getting different apps. To complicate things I then have a teacher set.

Hi Is it possible to pre-set a device name to DEP enrolled devices? We do this today in Jamf school but don’t seem to be able to do it in intune meaning we have to manually rename the device from iPad to its new name after it registers. Ideally we would like to do this under Enrol devices/Apple enrolment/enrolment program tokens/token_name. Then under devices where we see all their serial numbers from ASM set the device name. Any suggestions?

Forgot to mention, Cambium is entirely cloud based management and it’s free.

We went with Cambium, rock solid now for several years, essentially never touch it.

Hi, im hoping someone can help. We would like to move all student and staff homedrives to OneDrive, initially Student/Staff will use the already domain joined laptops and slowly we will reimage them to be fully Intune/Endpoint managed devices. The devices will be used by multiple students, we dont seem to be able to get OneDrive to automatically login the logged in user, instead they have to launch the onedrive app and login separately. Has anyone successfully done this, if so what are we missing?

I’d use it to setup a test environment so I can better support the school i provide voluntary IT support to for the last 5 years.

There is Fortiauthenticator, which in combination with the Fortinet SSO mobility agent would give the same FSSO but it comes at about £1000 for 100 users. Another thought we had was 802.1x and putting teachers on a separate vlan with a different filtering profile, but there does not seem to be a simple way to connect the switches/Wi-Fi to AzureAD. Any ideas welcomed.

Hi We are a small primary with a fairly simple setup that currently consists of Windows 10 laptops, iPads, domain server, Fortigate firewall and FSSO. Currently when staff login to the laptops the FSSO agent on the DC tells the fortigate who is logged onto which machine and they pickup one web filtering policy which means they can get to Youtube for example. When children login they get a different filtering policy and cannot get to Youtube. From the shared iPads everybody gets the same filtering policy and cannot get to Youtube. This is all fine. We want to move to entirely cloud removing the DC and moving to Azure AD, Intune, Configuration Manager etc. There does not seem to be an FSSO agent that works with AzureAD. Does anyone have any cleaver ideas on a cost effective way of having the same filtering group setup when the laptops are Azure AD joined?

Looking for some clarification, we are a small primary school with around 300 children and ~40 staff equating to around 30 FTE under OVS. Currently we have a traditional setup with onsite server, AD, print, etc. Licensing wise we have OVS agreement comprising of: Windows Server Core *16 Desktop Edu Core *30 Remote Worker CAL *20 We are looking at going entirely cloud leveraging M365, SharePoint, Onedrive, direct print+Universal print (remote printing only for staff), Intune, AutoPilot, Connected Cache, Config Manager etc. We want to use MFA and conditional policies (access to Arbor, Sharepoint etc onsite does not require MFA but offsite it does) From a licensing point of view it seems a bit of a minefield, questions: 1) If we went down the A3 route must we purchase A3 for every member of staff or does MS allow us to use A3 for say 20 users and A1 for the other 20 - we understand the A1 users will not get desktop apps? 2) If we were to mix A1 and A3 is it ok to then purchase P1 for the 20 staff that dont have A3 so they can use conditional access, password write-back etc? 3) If we went with A1/A3/P1 what if any issues would we get with Intune etc with the staff that only have A1? 4) If we went with 20* A3 would all our students be covered for 'student use benefit'? 5) How does EQU vs Lite User come into play here, for example is a teaching assistant who occasionally uses web based Word a lite user or EQU? 6) Does A3 provide the windows OS license for shared use or do we need to cover this separately? 7) If A3 does not cover the windows OS license any reason we should/cannot use the OEM license that came with the laptops? 8) Is it acceptable to eliminate our OVS agreement entirely and purchase a perpetual Windows Server license for the single entry level server we will need onsite for Connected Cache, Universal Print Connector, Sharp Onestop agent, etc - no plan to have AD? All inputs and suggestions welcomed!

We use signinapp with rfid which the staff then use to get through the Paxton standalone door controller and also to release their print jobs from a sharp MFD. We are only a small primary so a little manual effort in administering the 3 systems is no overhead. We have also used the QR codes printed on the staff badges with signinapp and these work really well too.

Hi We moved from Dell w-IAP105s to Cambium e410s over a year ago all managed via cnmaestro - never had an issue with them in all that time. We are only a 12 class primary and have about 20 APs altogether. I’m fact we had not touched them for over a year and decided to do a firmware upgrade last week to 4.2 - went very smoothly. Best bit was for Unify pricing we got Cambium with 5year warranty and cloud management.

We used purdicom for Cambium, they were excellent with great pricing, great presales technical support and provided software based WiFi planning.

I’m debating whether to go for the e410 or e600 to serve the classes where 30 laptops or iPads would be used at once, would people generally recommend 2x2 or is the extra 60% in cost worth it for 4x4 ?
