LGFL TrustNet for us - currently on a 200mbps line which is soon to be upgraded to 300mbps as part of their broadband upgrade pledge. Overkill for what we require but not going to turn down the free upgrade. Can't complain one bit, really good value for us as we take advantage of pretty much all the added bundled services (Sophos, MalwareBytes, Adobe Suite etc...). Filtering is handled through their webscreen platform, which used to be quite the source of annoyance in the past, but they've upgraded it quite a lot in the past year. Any support queries I have tend to get picked up very quickly.

YouTube - Do you block or allow access to students?
Cat_Jam148 replied to Nausing's topic in How do you do....it?
Blocked for all Pupils and unblocked for Staff. Staff can request for it to be unblocked on specific device groups e.g. Laptop Trolley 1, iPad Trolley 2 etc... -
PM EduGeek user sly888 He's sorted a few people out who've been having the same issues. Link to other thread: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/206029-usavi-visualiser-software.html

Google gives most Chromebooks an extra year of software support
Cat_Jam148 replied to Arthur's topic in Cloud Services
Ok. Ok. I was just pointing out that the cheap...ish machines can last far longer than expected. I'll head back to my cave now -

Cat_Jam148 replied to Arthur's topic in Cloud Services
I expected "not much longer" a couple of years ago however, SLT expect them to keep going to until the very end. I've been bringing replacement plans up every meeting for the past few years and was finally on track to get them replaced the beginning of next year until I had my budget slaughtered mid-year due to financial forecasts. I've grown to detest them as they're a pain to manage now, horribly slow and the last iOS update was 9.3.5. We paid £260, so not too far off. The SSD upgrade a couple of years ago was about £35ish each unit. -

Primary here running 32 2013 Toshiba Satellite Pro's which are used daily. Upgraded them to SSDs a few years back but still running strong! No plans to replace, no real need as they work perfectly - we'll end up running them into the ground. Our iPad 2s on the other hand...oh boy -
Who will still be running on Win7 and Server 2008 after Jan 2020?
Cat_Jam148 replied to bodminman's topic in Windows
Our SIMS Server was the only one running Server 2008, managed to get that switched over to Server 2016 during the six weeks. No Windows 7 boxes left but still have an XP machine running the heating, it's completely standalone and wired directly to the boiler. -
No luck with ECS The Greener Side - seems they are very particular, only taking in waste toner from photocopiers which have been supplied by their 'authorised dealers' Back to Google I go! Really want to avoid chucking them in the bin like our print supplier recommended.

Looks like I'll give these a try. Thanks for the responses guys!
-
Why didn't I think of that? Maybe I should've asked "What companies do you guys recommend?" I've already contacted a couple but had very little response.
-
Hi Guys, Just wondering how you deal with the disposal of waste toner? We used to have a company collect both waste toner and empty toner cartridges but they've started to refuse the waste toner now. Starting to get quite the collection of them! Thanks

An app to get photos and videos from iPad to network storage
Cat_Jam148 replied to dobbyit's topic in How do you do....it?
As of yet I haven't come across any free app/service that allows you to configure network storage for mass deployment on iPads. We've been in the same situation countless times with our iPads (250 odd - Primary school too) - just had to suck it up and enter the credentials. We've used everything from DropBox, OneDrive and have now settled on a superb app called Documents - still have to enter the credentials manually, but have only had to do it once. Comes with built in PDF, Word, PowerPoint readers so it's great for making our iPads more than just fancy internet browsers. -
Bring on Ricochet VR!

TNG update is great for fans, had me grinning all the way through it. Well worth the cost in my opinion. Reminds me of the old Star Trek: Bridge Commander game from back in the day. Too bad it doesn't run that well once you go beyond Windows 7.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a great game to pass a few hours with some mates! One of my favourite VR games along with Beat Saber.

Scratch 3.0 - running from Network Share
Cat_Jam148 replied to LeightonJames's topic in Educational Software
We installed it on a machine and grabbed the files - I believe it installs itself somewhere in AppData? Then copied all those files onto our applications share and created a shortcut pointing to Scratch Desktop.exe Works a treat. EDIT: Looks like this thread here also has an MSI which installs it to Program Files http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/202686-could-someone-create-msi-installer-new-scratch3-desktop-please.html -

Running Impero, I'm more than used to a few 'quirks' by now. Do you run the safeguarding module? How good is the keyword detection? -
Senso Cloud - Any of you recommend it?
Cat_Jam148 posted a topic in Network and Classroom Management
Hi all, I'm starting to get a bit miffed with Impero so i've recently started looking into replacements. I've come across Senso cloud - do you guys have any experience with it and would you recommend it? Thanks -
[1809, ou] WiFi not automatically reconnecting on boot
Cat_Jam148 replied to Cat_Jam148's topic in Windows 10
Nope - WiFi only. I've disabled the power saving feature in device manager but still no luck. -
Rolled out Win 10 Edu 1809 not too long ago and not had any real issues with it. Would've jumped to 1903 but wanted the longer support lifecycle.
-
Hi guys, Having an issue with a few machines not automatically reconnecting to the WiFi after booting up. The network stays disconnected until the WiFi connection list is opened - it then connects instantly. Not sure what's causing it. Any ideas?

As far as i'm aware, the only app able to browse the iPad file system 'fully' is the Apple files app, which doesn't have the capability to connect to network shares (who knows if that'll change with iPadOS). All other apps have very little access which is why we have to use the share function and then copy to Documents which will then allow you to browse the mapped drive for a place to save.
