Hi AM_LHS, I recommend you take a look at the Web Help Desk software It does everything that you describe and more, and is very popular amongst educational and FE establishments (see the Customer List). Web Help Desk also has very competitive educational discounts! The software is very configurable but very simple to pick up and get running, so negates the need for costly implementation services or training. I hope that helps! WHD_Guy

Hi Dave, You say that when logging in to WHD directly on Windows Server 2008 the Login button doesn't respond. This is due to the form submit button using Javascript to submit the username/password. Javascript is often disabled on browsers installed on server platforms by default, so this would explain the Login button not working for you. I would suggest that you either ensure that javascript is enabled on the web browser, or just log in to the software from a regular desktop machine. I hope this helps you or anyone else using WHD on Windows Server 2008! Thanks, whd_guy.

That's correct, however Unipress Software is much more than a Web Help Desk reseller. Unipress Software provides full localised technical & implementations support to the UK (as well as all of EMEA, India, and Russia). Feel free to download a free help desk software trial or try out a 30 day hosted SaaS trial (hosted in the UK for optimal speed and performance). The hosted trial will allow you to avoid the red-tape many have associated with installing software on a server; especially when you only want to test the help desk software. For more information about our help desk software, sold and supported in the UK, please visit: Unipress Software - Help Desk Software by Web Help Desk Go here to get a hosted SaaS help desk trial (click on the "Download" button and select the license type of "ASP Hosted Plan" for your hosted trial): Hosted SaaS Help Desk by Web Help Desk Thanks, WHD_Guy -

Hi Edu-IT, I see that no-one has come back to you on this, I don't know if it's something to do with the snow.... We have recently introduced a new discussions forum for Web Help Desk users. This is a great resource for getting tips on how to use the software, submitting feature suggestions, or just getting to know some of the users in the Web Help Desk Community. Please feel free to check this out: Web Help Desk Software Forum Alternatively email webhelpdesk{at}unipress.co.uk and we'll be happy to provide you with some EDU references. Thanks, WHD_guy

Web Help Desk has a Knowledge Base FAQ on Web Help Desk Software and single sign-on. Hopefully that should sort your enquiry on SSO configuration. Feel free to browse the Web Help Desk Software Knowledge Base for more self-help. FYI - all WHD installs have this capability to view the knowledge base without logging in. Also, you can configure Web Help Desk to disable the opportunity for a non-support staff to select the trouble ticket Priority. In most cases, endusers will select "Urgent", as their problems are ALWAYS "urgent". However, if all tickets are "urgent" priority, they may as well be all "low" priority...there is no sense of priority! Thus, you may remove this from the enduser's view by changing the setting, logged in as an Admin in Web Help Desk, at Preferences > Tickets > Client Priority Option. You will also see more information if you mouse-over the configuration setting. Feel free to enquire on any other features within Web Help Desk. Enjoy! Web Help Desk

Hi Chris, There should be no problem having 3 domains as far as I'm aware. As long as WHD is installed on a server that users from all 3 domains can access via the web then it should be fine. As for AD client synching, Web Help Desk has the ability to create multiple LDAP connections. So you just need to create 3 connections for your 3 domains. Let us know if you need any help setting this up - support{at}unipress.co.uk. Thanks, WHD_Guy

Hi Dan, The LDAP setup should be fairly straight forward but make sure you set the connection authentication to 'Simple' and enter the account details of an account in AD for authenticating like the following: Connection Account: accountid@yourdomain Connection Account Password: password_for_admin_account You don't need to fill out Group DN or Search filter unless you want to, as long as the base DN is ok WHD will pull in all Clients found beneath the OU in the Base DN. If you require any help with this, please feel free to email our support: [email protected] Thanks, WHD_Guy

Hi MK-2, This all depends on the amount of information that you want to be made available to your management team. You could make them 'Tech' users and restrict their permissions so that they only see tickets available to them, also disabling certain functionality so that they can't delete client users etc. This would obviously require Tech licenses to be purchased for each management user. Another approach is by using the Client Admin user types. Client Admins are still regular client users except they are also able to view tickets for their Locations/Departments. Client Admins can also (should you wish) submit tickets on behalf of other client users. They still use the simpler client interface however and do not require Tech licenses. The simplest option here is probably the Client Admin approach. You can also schedule ticket reports to be sent by email to clients/techs or even external email addresses. So should you not want management to see other clients' ticket information through the online interface, you could just set up some ticket reports and schedule them to email management every week or day. I hope this helps. You are correct about integration with AD, Web Help Desk can connect to multiple LDAP sources and synchronise periodically, pulling in the client user details into its database. Thanks, WHD_Guy

This free 1 Tech lite edition allows you to support as many clients as you need as long as you only require 1 Technician to support them. So you can use this across any number of schools! You only pay for the software if you need more than 1 Tech, and even then the pricing is very reasonable. There are two editions - Lite and Pro depending on what feature set you need. This free edition uses the Lite functionality. As for Schools buying the Lite/Pro software, if they require more than 1 Tech there are some great educational discounts available!
