I am "Mr Promethean", and I'm telling you that "no show" should not be used for long periods of time. The no show function switches all the LCD panels on in the projector, this reflects the heat back inside the projector causing a lot of heat. This heat could damage the projector if it is used for a long time. My advice as far as this whole topic goes is (and don't take this as a rule of thumb, these are guidelines) 1. If you are not going to use the projector for more than an hour, switch it off. 2. Don't use no show for long periods of time. 3. Don't power down projectors from the mains, always use the power button on the remote or projector and wait for the shutdown process to complete. There are no issues with using the projector all day, just be aware that the life of the lamp is a finite figure and will run out eventually. Also be aware that if the projector is on and not in use then it is just pulling air and dust into the unit for no good reason.

Installshield error 1608: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108440 I would try deleting all your temp files (windows temp folder and user temp folder) then restart the machine and try again. The installshield app is very easily confused.

is that a problem with the wrapper or promethean stuff? have you tried registering that ocx? run the command: regsvr32 COMCTL32.OCX

Has anyone heard of being able to do something similar to windows terminal services on a mac? I mean, being able to have multiple users logged onto one mac terminal services server (is that the correct expression? ) I dont know if this is a feature of mac os server alone or not, I havent heard anything about it, just thought it would be an interesting angle on the thin client front if macs were able to be run through thin clients.

my w900 does everything i want it to, i had a smartphone last year and it was crap. dont want a pda because it is too big. and the 3G/walkman/camera quality just wins it for me (the spring loaded swivel is kinda sexy too)

i was speaking to a school last week whose teachers all used macs and students all used windows pcs. how would you like that headache to deal with? lol

i have run it on a p3 800 with 256mb ram, not very well tho, i would say that any processor over 1.4ghz is good, 512mb is the minimum i would recommend for any pc these days that does a wide variety of tasks. building one for this standard isnt too pricey and dell do great deals on machines that are fast enough. i havent run it on a machine with a modern gpu yet, as far as i can see that is just for transparency and animations, it runs fine on machines that dont have this. graphics chipsets i've run on are onboard intel and gf4 mx. i'll translate this bit for you: • Are designed to ensure that graphics user experience scales up with hardware capabilities. means: "windows is only pretty if you have a really nice graphics card" • Offer improved graphic stability and performance. means: "we cant make windows run well on old PCs, we're not taking responsibility" • May be able to support additional desktop productivity features. means: "you can have dual display and higher resolution if you have a good graphics card" basically ignore it unless you do multimedia stuff.

i thought it was very promising, a few quirks to get used to (like microsoft "getting rid" of the documents and settings folder, all they have actually done is renamed it to "users", like mac osx) but i think by the time it gets round to being released it will be a very slick and fast operating system. The search indexing is one service i think will automatically be switched off on all installs of it though.

Just got a new system on the weekend, and installed battlefield 2 (been waiting to play it for ages but my old geforce 4 wasnt supported) and it is excellent, just being a madman and running over people in my hummer. Does anyone else like the Battlefield games? I was a bit of a veteran at bf1942 and could quite often be found flying b17s upside down under bridges :twisted:

i think its just called desktop sidebar (http://www.desktopsidebar.com/). was meant to make your desktop more "longhorny". Now they've removed it from vista, but its still nice to have all that info. I used to have one on either side of the screen (running in 1280x1024). Russ is using konfabulator? yes? Which has just been made free to download because yahoo have bought them out. so well worth a go, but VERY processor hungry. Then again, i suppose most of you guys have a good choice of processors
