Hi Tim, I'd be interested if you could PM me the name of the person you spoke to. Anyway, I have seen this problem before, and in my experience it is normally fixed by updating my display drivers. However a workaround (if this is only happening on certain systems) is to activstudio settings>flipchart objects>untick "High Quality Lines and Shapes".

Has anyone heard of this kind of reaction to wifi in their schools yet? Run AS3PEd.exe from the program folder, that will show you what files are being accessed etc when loading and unloading the program. You can see when it stops and what it is accessing at that point. As a general rule, when the software is unloading it writes to the users documents folder, and the all users documents folder, and it will remove any of it's files from the windows temp folders. the software will definately need access to c:\documents and settings\%username%\documents\Activstudio 3\ as it will try saving backup files to that location, regardless of where the users profile is normally stored.

you could use something like sh.run "%comspec% /c nslookup " & ipaddress & " > " & tempfile,0,true to output the ip lookup to a text file and then open the text file to get the hostname. bit complicated though. can't think of an easy way.

ring up promethean tech support and ask to speak to me, it's one of those things that's probably easier to explain over the phone. (plus I think it sounds too "sales" like to be on here)

yes, it is against the software license agreement to use it without promethean hardware connected to the system. it will also display a watermark on the screen and disable some tools. however if you buy an activslate system for example, that comes with an activhub, then you can use our software on the smartboard, it behaves like dongle. you will still be able to use your finger on your board too (if you are that way inclined). if you have any questions then I can answer them.

yup, definately works, that's what I have installed. menu, open file, from another location, click "files of type", choose smart, choose file. it depends what version of the smart software your file was created in tho, if it was created in a version later than 9.1 then you'll need activprimary 3 (free download from website for existing customers)

In the open file dialog try changing the "file of type" selector to "smart notebook files". If you don't have that then you may need to update, what version of promethean software are you using?

actually that statement has been wrong since before xmas 2006. the driver from 4.1.8 onwards has been signed by microsoft so it can be used correctly. I currently have only heard of 1 problem with 4.1.9 activdriver and that has been internal, so no customer reported issues. which I think is a first.

yeah, that comment was from me via support. yes ddnt.sys is from the dinkey dongle usb driver, this is the dongle we used for older panels and tablets. Older models of those tablets couldnt provide the hardware key to activstudio to remove the watermark and enable all features, hence the dongle. These days it isn't needed but we include the driver in the software install in case anyone is using older software. Thanks to your reports (and also one from denmark) we have fixed this and future releases of the software shouldnt have this problem. The antivirus programs are flagging it up as a rootkit I believe, however not all of these are malicious and this isn't really behaving like a rootkit. The antivirus is mistaking the way it monitors for a USB device as a virus. currently it is safe to add this to the exclude list or delete the file if you arent using a dongle.

try updating to activdriver 4.1.9, there were a few connectivity problems in 4.1.8. or try phoning support, or email through the form on http://uk.prometheankb.com/

lol, I think your first 2 options might be ok. We'll have to see about the tarball methods. I think to start with the driver will just be for interaction, with a simple version of our software. voting/slates etc will follow.
