  1. just thought it might be interesting to see what people work with. I'm a big fan of messing with my desktop, so lets see yours btw this one i'm posting is toned down a lot, i did have the wallpaper from tiger and a dock program to have a floaty mac osx dock at the bottom. post your work or home one, whatever, this is my work one
  2. they are a piece of technology, which means that things need configuring. You should find that once its set up that it will rarely go wrong (it could do if something changes significantly on the machine, or things arent switched on). Just make sure the teachers know that you are spending time on them and it would be nice if they could learn how to do common tasks (i know, it sounds impossible, but worth a try). basically, they are more complicated than a blackboard, but thats the point. you are just in the position of not getting any benefit from it
  3. i hear that smartboards carry various std's, and beat up little children in back alleys to steal their shoes* *this is probably not true
  4. happy nerd-day guys!
  5. i'm really looking forward to this, the last few betas were good, really want to see it in full indigo/avalon glory. btw, is it me, or is window navigation getting very mac-y, especially the search box and the <-backforward-> buttons in the top left?
  6. what software are you using, or planning on using? ignore me, just saw that you are using smart boards, so i guess you'll be using the smart software *slaps head*
  7. you'll love this, we get it all the time here. customer: "my interactive whiteboard isnt working" me: "in what way?" customer: "there is no image on it" me: "oh, you mean the projector isnt working?" customer: "no it's the board, theres just nothing there!" me: "ok" me: *proceeds with instructions to fix a projector* btw, these comments in no way reflect any opinion or views of the company i work for. we also tend to find that these are primary school teachers and never IT technicians.
  8. my job means i speak to IT technicians from a lot of schools across the country, you see a wide range in IT department development. sometimes there is a whole team, with the latest machines, we've had schools installing lots of our equipment in places they might not need it because they have the spare budget. then there are schools with no IT technicians, i've spoken to some schools where technology teachers (woodwork, design etc) have become the it support, because they are more technical. They are great people, they will work their hardest to help fix problems, but i feel they are sometimes fighting a losing battle if they are given no backup by the people they work for. well done for highlighting this with the letter. its unfortunate that the people who control the budgets wont get to read it.

    It's ALIVE!!!

yeah, driver support in linux basically consists of a few linux geeks banging out their own drivers rather than hardware makers releasing them.

how do you like the pod? I was thinking of getting one but havent heard of a real life review
  15. Just thought i'd highlight something that was covered, if a projector cost £200 a pop to clean internally, and i was worried about my budget vanishing, i would make my projector filter cleaning regime a little more regimented. as for dust falling inside the projector, either there is too much dust in the filter or there is too much dust on top of the projector. I havent seen dust thick enough to fall back into the projector on any of the projectors here. (you could always blame the kids, all that unneeded skin shedding, they don't think do they, lol )
