Local Authority Data Team bod here. Calm before the storm. In a few short days begins the mass influx of pupil data from 277 schools which needs importing/checking/updating/conflicts resolved between three people in the next three weeks or so... just in time to do it all again next month for the School Census.

The last film I saw was A Ghost Story starring Casey Affleck. I almost turned it off after half an hour as it was very 'film noir' with long periods of zero dialog and not much happening on screen (including maybe 5 minutes that felt more like 20 of just watching a woman eat a pie) but it was worth persisting with. Quite interesting as it went on.

I saw that film! Odd but good. My favourite part was when I recognised the voice of Boni and saw that they were playing an episode of the 80s children's tv programme Trapdoor on the tv screen in the car!

Thanks. I've heard of B2B Open too but again not had the opportunity to fully investigate as yet. I thought however, that B2B Open was one where the file had to be run by the school and placed in a particular drive for collection but I could be wrong.

I've heard about Groupcall Xporter but not looked in to it too far as yet. We're pretty new to B2B: Student and have only got our SIMS schools on board with it in the last 2 years so will soon be looking at how to transfer data with our non SIMS schools. Is Groupcall fully scheduled/automated as B2B is? I.e. no need for say a school to manually export a file and put it in a drive where it can be 'collected'?

From a Local Authority's point of view, I'd consider how data is transferred to your LA, too. SIMS has the benefit of B2B: Student which means data files can be sent as scheduled tasks to the LA automatically, therefore no manual intervention required and so saving on Admin costs. Other MIS can produce files that the LA can import but I've not heard as yet of an example where this process can be completely automated as B2B: Student can.

Hi all. I'm Katrina and I work in Data Management for Cornwall Council dealing predominantly with pupil data in schools and our local authority. I stumbled upon this site when Google searching for some information on school mergers and academy conversions. It's handy to have somewhere else to look for information and advice when (as is often the case) I'm unable to find it on the Department For Education or MIS software suppliers websites.
