@Oaktech Do you have a family to consider? Wife/Husband, Children?

I'd use yellow pages, as kindling. If you don't have one, I recommend you get a BBQ chimney firestarter. They A) light briquettes/lumpwood evenly within 10-15 mins, B) can be used for starting a proper fire quite easily, C) can be used as an improvised stove

I did edit my post Neil Also, I am glad this post has people thinking!

vehicles built in the 1800s-1920s used a crank to get things going, beyond that they used batteries of sorts. Remember, you CAN start diesel engines without a battery, its just a hassle. *edit* It has to be the older flywheel type engines not the newer injection ones.

Remember, transport isn't out...just electronics. Steam trains would still run, so would sail boats. Just means things would take longer.

A solar EMP could easily do it, never mind a nuke. Nasa have seen solar flares hit mars, with the ferocity that would destroy all electronics on earth (only once, back in the 70s I think). Now granted, this was 40 years ago or so, and chances of it happening are slim, but it could well happen.

I do still shoot, not as much as I should do, maybe once a month at the minute. Its finding time with a new one on the way. Plan to take my daughter with me to learn when she is around 6 or so.

OK, lets take for example - electricity is done, your freezer foods are the first ones to go and would require eating quickest, followed by fridge food, then larder and tinned foods. Salt is cheap enough, but factor in NOWHERE is more than 72 miles from the coast in the UK (Tamworth being furthest away) that is at best a 2 day hike from Tamworth, at worst a week to get to the sea. Nowhere is further than 40 miles from tidal waters (rivers). So getting to a salt giving water body is reasonably easy. Extracting salt from seawater (and making drinkable water) is simple enough, without the use of an osmosis pump or anything. You can sustain yourself quite easily with seawater. Factor in coastal lands have high proteins - limpets, clams, razer clams, fish, shrimp etc you could survive quite well at the coast

I think I remember the show, but there have been a few like that to be fair. Discovery had a thing on a while back that had "what if" scenarios, such as nanobots absorbing all electric, or a solar EMP destroying all circuitry in the world, or smallpox coming back etc. Some were quite shocking. The "professionals" worked out that it would take less than 72 hours before full scale riots and killings were taking place for resources, as people would start dropping because of lack of water, then people would go in raiding groups for food and resources such as fuel ready to use etc. I think the figures they used were as follows. 0-1 Month: 10% of population dead 1-6 Months: 25% of population dead 6-12 Months: 40% of population dead 1-5 Years: 65% of population dead 5-10 Years: 75% of population dead By this point, society would be self sustaining again growing what was needed to survive, farming animals, foraging for food and hunting again. We'd back to 1700-1800's level of technology should electricity suddenly stop. The worst affected areas would be high density populations where there are more than 250 people per square KM. Of the high % of deaths the professionals said you would be looking at people over 50 and under 10 due to the inherent weaknesses of their immune system (around 70% of all deaths would fall in this category).

Whilst I liked dark angel, they still had full on electricity, even though it was "post apocalyptic". I chose revolution, because they have small pockets of it due to the pendant things they have.
-
You know an EMP would cripple anything electronic, whether its on or off right?
-
Surely it would be better to negotiate living with them and learning from them? (though I like your style! haha)
-
Nah...thinking long term. What could you do? Do you have any training that would be useful in that situation. First aid, carpentry, smithing, hunting etc. And this isn't a plug for my ebook either. The tension with the crimea situation could escalate and something *could* happen. Just a what if.

Ok, I am a member of a few forums, and this topic has come up a lot recently. If there was a global EMP (such as the style of the TV show Revolution), how would you cope and what would you do?

Considering I have been suffering (badly) with caffeine withdrawal, I've cut out soft drinks and tea in its entirety. Been quite headachey and snappy, but people at work are helping me through!

not my referal link, just one I found. I've used the site before and they've been good for me. As for not playing enough, that is unfortunate. I've been lucky (or unlucky) enough to be playing since the closed beta. It has been massively improved in a lot of areas (quest glitches, race glitches) and small improvements elsewhere (one closed beta weekend, they maxed out every character from the start and did only main questline only to see how long it would take to fight molag bol...was not a pretty one) Overall I am happy to be paying out for it as it is one I can get longevity from. If I need to stop, I will cancel the payments and carry on when I can.

You aren't the only one who thought the race perks weren't fair, but to be honest, they've been a part of the game since Day 1, going right back to Elder Scrolls Arena (now that takes me back!!). The point about the weaponry, you wont get to switch between 2 sets until you're rank 15, you can still change mid game or whatever, just wont get the quick swap option until rank 15. You can spec half bow skills, half mage skills, so you could heal for example, whilst dealing out hefty damage and it would be a good mix. As for more beta weekends, I just dont know the answer, if they do, it would have to be next weekend. As for your game, if you dont want to stump up the £50, why not pay £30 with this site? https://www.g2a.com/the-elder-scrolls-online-cd-key-preorder-global.html?___store=english&___currency=GBP&id=51&adid=GMC_GB&gclid=CNTqwLG6mb0CFQoYwwod7hQAVQ

An original NES from 1986 which still works An original Sega Master system from 1986 which still works An original gameboy from 1990 which still works All at my mothers house

Thats true, but thats a racial perk which is unattainable otherwise. However in terms of tech, armour, skills etc, they all have the same max level. Opening bonuses can be used to your advantage however. Being a mage with a bow and arrow back up is a good thing, you're ranged either way, you can interrupt and do hefty damage, so its a good backup.
-
All skills have a max level, all attainable with or without the perk from their starting race.
-
No, I didn't say thats what you should be all the time, its just how they're advantaged. You could well be an Elvish Mage, there is nothing stopping you from doing so, you just dont start as well. They all max out roughly the same, its just the beginning bonus where you see the advantage.

yes...it isn't bad with strawberry jam, but horrible with raspberry, blackcurrent or blackberry jam.

my father in law swears by banana and marmite sandwiches...

@Garacesh the above may actually be of interest for you. Also, if you want to focus on being a mage, look at the races before hand and go for one that suits it better. It would be pointless being a Nord Mage when they're brawlers, same as being an Breton brawler when they're more mage types. Here is a list of racial traits and their best suiting (roughly speaking) Breton - Mage - Generic (can be tuned to be a mage of all kinds) Redguard - Brawler - Tank Orsimer - Brawler - Damage Per Second attacks Nord - Brawler - 2 hand attack buffer Dunmer - Range - Damage Per Second attacks Argonian - Mage - Healing spells/casting Altmer - Mage - Destruction attacks Bosmer - Ranged Archer - Disruption attacks Khajiit - Assassin - Sneak attacks Imperial - Brawler - 1 Hand Buffer They are the strengths of the races based on what I can find online. Generally it holds true, except for imperial as imperial can be as sneaky as khajiit but it takes longer to do. Now for each race, I recommend as follows: Breton - Sorcerer Redguard - Dragon Knight Orsimer - Templar Nord - Templar Dunmer - Nightblade Argonian - Sorcerer Altmer - Sorcerer Bosmer - Nightblade Khajiit - Nightblade Imperial - Templar
