  1. Would love to have a chat. I will DM you - - - Updated - - - Can I ask if you are a secondary school adn if so would you be willing to have a chat? - - - Updated - - - I completely agree but SLT want to consider SIMS. What MIS do you use if you don't mind me asking?
  2. Our school (AKA SLT) is considering moving MIS from Isams to Hosted Sims, Arbor or to Broadcom and I have been asked me to conduct a review. Our main issues with Isams are as follows CTL Files are never imported correctly so the admissions officer has to manually import data for new starters Reporting/data functionality is very limited unless you build reports yourself or have custom reports built at cost from Isams It is hard to find data managers that know how to use ISAMS as most use SIMS I personally do not want to move to SIMS as I think that is a step backwards and a lot of schools are moving away from SIMS but SLT want to consider SIMS. I have come on here to ask whether there are any state Secondary schools that have moved from SIMS to Arbor/Broadcom or from Isams to Arbor/Broadcom who would be willing to share their experience. Additionally, it would be great if we could also speak to a data manager using one of the above MIS's as the main pinch point is around data. We are not certain that we want to move away from Isams (as there are some very good things about Isams) so if any schools are using Isams and are willing to discuss their experience with Data/CTF files imports, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you.
  3. Hi All, Does anyone know of any good beginner training courses (from course providers or online) to learn how to program HP switches?
  4. Hi All, I am looking to use the Aruba Social Login (Google) to allow staff to login to the BYOD network using their Google login and have followed the instructions outlined in the article below. I have managed to set this up but was wondering if there is anyway to restrict logins so only specific OU's (ie the staff ou) can use their Google login (SSO) and everyone else errors out as I don't want students being able to login to this network using their Google account. https://help.central.arubanetworks.com/2.5.0/documentation/online_help/content/nwk-services/social-login.htm
  5. What do you do about staff that need stapler/finisher options as I believe the V4 drivers don't have those options
  6. On a alightly unrelated topic, how do you secure Gam as according to the video below , if someone is able to access the computer where GAM is installed, it would be very easy to copy GAM over to another machine and use GAM without any authentication being done on the new machine.
  7. Don't you need access to the more advanced options ie finishing options as I believe the type 4 drivers don't have these options.
  8. Whilst on the subject of Grab tills, are any of you using Grab till mode with a card reader? I am having an issue where the card reader we are using scans fine when in normal till mode but doesn't scan/identify cards when using the grab till mode. Have any of you using cards fpr authentication run into this issue and if so what was the fix? Any help would be much appreciated.
  9. Hi, We have Biostore tills which we use with TWN3 readers (as all students have cards) and I was wondering whether there is a way to program the readers to select an option on the till when a card is tapped on the reader rather then having the lunch lady input the option manually. The reason for this is that we have a very tight turn around for lunch and having someone input the option for every student slows the lunch process down. Thanks in advance for your help.
  10. Out of curiosity, what tills are you using now and are you running Biostore on the tills? Also out of curiosity, what signing system are you using?
  11. Hi AllWe currently have a 1:1 Chromebook scheme (which parents purchase through the school) in place for Y7's to Sixth former's. The school recently opened sixth form (2nd Year) and the majority of the students in sixth form were with school form Yr 7 so already have a Chromebook. With external applicants they have the choice to purchase/Lease a Chromebook from the school. The issue I am having is that some of the students in sixth form that bought a Chromebook in Yr 7 are stating that it is too slow or if the Chromebook is danged they do not want to pay to get it repaired (as the insurance has expired) as they say that they have a laptop at home and don't want to buy/repair their Chromebook as they have two years left till they go to university so would prefer to use the laptop they have at home. Also I don't think we will have enough Chromebooks down the line to rent out and won't have the budget to buy more. Initially the school was against this as they know we would have very little control as to what they could go on on their own device as with Chromebooks we can manage the extensions/apps they install but with students own devices there is only so much we can control. In light of the above, I would like to propose that we give sixth former's the option to bring in their own device and would like to put together a document outlining the advantages and disadvantages for SLT to consider. The list of advantages and disadvantages I have so far are as follows: Advantages We would spend a lot less money purchasing more Chromebooks from the school's budget Less technical support as students would be responsible for repairs and issues with their device (we would help with the very basics) Would save parents money and parents are less likely to purchase a new Chromebook for their child especially if they are only going to be at sixth form for two more years and then head off to university at which point they will probably purchase a new device or use laptop that they already have Disadvantages and way we could work around them Less control over what they are doing on the devices and more ways for them to bypass the filters we have in place as well as no way to view their screens in lesson to see what they are going on - To prevents this we could have a much more stringent AUP which both students and parents have to sign before we allow their device to connect to the school network. If a student continuously breaches the AUP we force them to use a Chromebook if they have one already Potential of theft of devices as some students will have more expensive devices than others whilst with Chromebooks we have the exact same model and can track the device so far less likely for theft to occur - We inform parents that we would not be responsible for thefts/misplaced devices and advise that they insure the device as part of the AUP School has a thing about everyone having the same device/uniform/jackets so you can't tell the rich students from the poor just by looking at them - not sure how to argue this or if I should jsut leave this out For those of you who have a similar policy in place have I missed anything and what has your experience been like. I would be very grateful for your feedback.
  12. Another option would be to use Salamander as they can also provision classrooms as well as users and variety of other things.
  13. Do you know what type of cards you use? - - - Updated - - - I have spoken to Biostore and their system uses 1K Chip MiFare Card. Doe anyone that use Inventory's sign in system/Paxton know if those systems are compatible with 1K Chip MiFare Card?
  14. Hi All, We are looking to move away from fingerprint readers as we have had issues where fingerprints are not recognized and because of this there are delays in the queue. We are also use Invntry sign in system with RFID cards and Paxton so would like a solution that works with the printer we use with Inventory and was wondering whether people would be willing to share what systems they used and if any schools used Paxton with Biostore
  15. Hi All, As you maybe aware there is a shortage of PPE equipment to first line responders. In order to combat this a gentleman by the name of Dhiresh Nathwani has been making face visors with the help of 3D printers. He has setup a website Makers 4 the NHS so that people that are able to contribute to the making of PPE can do so. If anyone on this forum has access to a 3D printer please follow the instructions in this Github repo https://github.com/seanmtracey/PPE-V...n-Instructions to make 3D headbands. Even if you are unable to make the entire Visor mask, he is happy for you to send him the 3D printed headband and he will then assemble the rest. More information can be found in the links below and he is very quick to respond to twitter DM's Makers 4 the NHS Even if you do not have access to 3D printers please have a look at the website to see how you can help. He is also looking for couriers that can deliver equipment from Winchester > Southampton and from London > Isle Of W Thank you to all those who choose to participate and please pass this on to anyone that you think can help.

  17. Using Hyperoptic Fibre Broadband 150mbs and I can count on one hand the number of times the broadband has gone down and most of that has been due to planned maintenance which they inform you of. Also their support is fantastic not the usual "the signal is terrible because of the walls". They are able to use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues with your router to the switch they have installed in the building which is great. Been with them for five years now and definitely the best broadband provider I have ever been with hands down.
  18. my guess is 200
  19. Another option to consider is Hapara Dashboard, Has a lot of features that other providers do not have such as closing tabs, Setting up sessions to only allow students to go onto specific websites,

Can you deploy Logic Pro X with all the relevant soundfiles?
  22. Hi All, We are looking to setup a proper system to manage our Chromebook repairs (as we are have a 1:1 deployment and currently using a spreadsheet to manage repairs) and was wondering what other people are using for this. Ideally we would like to the following features Import serial numbers from Google admin console Ability to email students/tutor when repairs is completed Ability to track inventory and part costs Ability to import student info from Isams
  23. What external sound card did you use? From my experience it seems that when using an external sound card the Mac thinks that headphones are already plugged in (due to the headphone port being plugged with a broken headphone).
