Ours is on the main physical network but on its own VLAN, with ACLs to only allow a certain other VLAN (containing the PCs we allow access from) to access it. Footage is downloaded from any PC (in the aforementioned VLAN) using IE. I think we have user accounts on the recorder for IT, facilities and security (although it tends to be security find the bit that is needed and I end up downloading it and putting it on CD)

We've replaced one building with 21 of the AC-Pros (used to be HP MSM460s), infinitely better. We've stuck one in each room and it just works - much better speeds than on the (more expensive) HP kit and the daily complaints about the laptops (3rd gen i3/4GB RAM/SSD) taking 15 minutes to log on have vanished. Couldn't recommend them enough. We set up the controller on a virtual machine so the only cost we had was the access points.

Never tried it, but from using the iSAMS API be aware it doesn't expose anywhere near all the data - it's sufficient for exporting to external systems like catering but I wouldn't use it for syncing to another MIS.

Boycotting Trust for now - bought a load of USB headsets and they don't work in USB3 ports, and don't work on any of our laptops ("Device configurator failed" or something like that in Event Viewer). Works fine on my PC (and a few I've tested at random) though....

Thanks all going to get a load of Logitech mice... probably over the summer as we've found a box with 10 old Dell optical mice in which will see us through until then.

Think I'll give the B100 a go, thinking about it the mice we've had problems with were from one specific PC manufacturer and they were the "included" (£5 I think per set) keyboard and mouse bundle. Keyboards were decent so the mice were probably the 99p variety.

It should update like everything else Windows does - Windows Updates. I'd rather not delay everyone 5 minutes every time they log on somewhere new or somewhere that they've not been in a while so their profile has gone. Couldn't get it to work on my test PC anyway, ran the installer than tried to open onedrive.exe and nothing happened, nothing in the event log. Looks like our attempt to push stuff to onedrive will have to be "you have to use the browser to get at it" or onedrivemapper.

We went with 38 Hikvision cameras and the 64 channel NVR with 4 x 4TB drives, did the entire install ourselves and it came in at about £6k. This doesn't include PoE switches as we already had sufficient spare capacity in our existing switches. Took 2 of us about 3 weeks to install including doing all the data cable runs

Has anyone got this to work who doesn't have SCCM? As far as I can see it's a good idea but next to useless as the setup.exe needs running as each user, with admin privileges (according to https://support.office.com/en-us/article/deploy-the-new-onedrive-sync-client-in-an-enterprise-environment-3f3a511c-30c6-404a-98bf-76f95c519668) All I want is a normal installer that doesn't put EXEs in %userprofile%\AppData that I can run once per PC, and not have to then re-run if someone logs onto a computer they've never used before Currently using the OneDriveMapper script but you can't really put anything big on there as WebDav has quite a low max file size (probably wasn't considered low when it was first implemented...)

Does anybody have a good source of mice? Just needs to be a basic 2 button with scroll optical mouse, but in the past we've had a run of bad luck where the mice we've had (mostly with new PCs) just don't work on our desks without a sheet of paper putting underneath them, and others the buttons have just been easily pulled off. I'm looking around the £5 mark to try and get something a bit more likely to last but I don't want to order 25 or 50 of them and discover they don't like our desks! The desks are just standard light wood coloured worktop. Thinking back the best mice we've had have been Dell or Microsoft but hoping not to have to spend that much. As others have said - depends what you mean by "general use". Here there's me (systems manager) and my boss (head of computing) who can knock up SSRS reports, usually it's requested by office staff or one of the deputy heads (if we need to change the academic report layout etc). I'd say on average we do a couple a month.

We have the calendar with dairy dates kind of things on iSAMS rather than printed out and also linked onto the website, I thought this was more things like "so-and-so's grandmother has died, they might be upset" or "I'm taking Year 11 out on a trip so sorry about them missing your lessons" - which we have in a weekly briefing then minuted and stuck on the noticeboard.

Also if you think you can do the fix yourself with the parts - worth asking IDNS if they could supply you with just the parts, I've done similar before with an out-of-warranty item (can't remember what the item was or if it was with IDNS though)

The amount they charge per year and they're after a used £20 scanner back is actually bordering on hilarious/insanity. Bet they also charged an extra fee for the scanner at the beginning too.

Well I'll watch this thread with interest - both the deputy heads are retiring/leaving at the end of this year and being replaced by someone a bit more tech friendly, so might be able to push for something a lot better than the piece of paper, especially as they're wanting to improve internal communication as it was remarked as being poor in the last staff survey.

Oh wow, should have expected this sort of thing would roll in. We have a piece of paper pinned to the staff room notice board summarising the Monday staff briefing. Doesn't even get emailed round. (I also get to use the "paper" response when people ask about visitor signing in systems, we've got a paper book)

633 days on three switches (in a cab we hardly ever touch as it's in a very awkward place, and we skipped it when doing the 10gig upgrades). Worryingly the core switch is showing as 22 days, I don't remember rebooting it 22 days ago.... Probably getting on for 5 years on the main SAN, I think it last powered off when we had a whole site power down for a new building to be connected in 2013 - but it won't tell me its uptime

Most filtering is priced based on number of users - how many users is "small primary"? We pay about £2k+VAT per year for filtering for 700 users. Edit: Just noticed you said 50 users - concurrent or total?

We've got about 10 of these (although it's with the square/rectangle arm rather than the round arm), we used brackets from RA to retro fit Casio XJ-ST145 short throw LED projectors. The projectors cost just over £1k each, and Casio don't make short throw LED projectors any more (at least not last time I checked), but provided you can get a bracket it's not difficult to do and it's given them a new lease of life - from "you have to close the blinds and turn the lights off and hope it's not sunny" to "you can teach with the blinds open and the lights on" The other option is as BennyG says (if you don't need it to be height adjustable) - mount the board to the wall and mount either a short throw or ultra short throw on a boom arm, short throw gets the better image and usually cheaper projector but it's a longer boom than ultra short, where you instead have to put up with a curved image due to the lens.

Looks good, shame I don't have the option to try it out, must need to be installed on the server by our trust techs. Also don't think I'd be brave enough to switch over - when we moved from Office XP to Office 2003 we got a lot of noise from teachers (and the only difference then was the grey toolbars changed to blue!)

I think most CCTV companies set up when everything was BNC/coax from camera to recorder, no networking involved and then slept through IP cameras becoming a thing and suddenly realised they had to work with IP and hadn't bothered to employ anyone who knows networking. Then they find which existing employee "is good with computers" and get them to make a mess of it.

We've got about 12 schools sharing an iSAMS setup in our trust, it appears to be 12 separate installations on the same server (there's a web server and a separate SQL server both hosted in Azure - on the SQL server there's a separate database per school). We then use the divisions to segment each school into primary etc. Unfortunately this means each school gets its own large annual bill but presumably it's on par with other MIS costs (I've never been involved in the billing side of MIS before so no idea but I doubt we've have moved to it if it cost more than we were paying for the old system) Edit: Yes the UI theme appears to be styled on XP but it's no big deal, although a theme refresh would be nice.
