Wouldn't spend that much on IT tbh. Complete restoration on the older buildings (the sandstone is in a poor condition, pointing, roof, windows etc) would blow through a few million to begin. Replace the awful 1960s additions with something new, replace the astroturf with the latest stuff. After that, fence the site in and spend a load on the grounds (resurfacing etc). IT wise it'd just be new kit everywhere and high spec whatever we bought rather than getting "oh we can just about get away with an i3 in there". Some decent switches would be nice, maybe swap everything out for the more expensive Unifi range.

Can't wait for this to be released and we can replace Chrome, been using the dev channel for a good 6 months or so now. Loving the "sync to AzureAD account" feature (although it is set up, we don't use google so nobody knows that they have a google account for syncing chrome bookmarks etc). The fact it's an update answers my questions about rolling it out too, so should just be a case of pushing the update out with SCCM - brilliant.

Academies that are close together form a cluster with local support, independents and academies out on their own have their own local support. Local support looks after each school network as if it wasn't part of a MAT, central team look after the core WAN and central services such as Azure hosted MIS, finance etc and look after the MAT offices. The network used to be MPLS from each site back to a data centre where it broke out to the Internet, now each school has its own connection and we just link together via Fortigate boxes VPN into Azure.

Our trust has a single forest with a domain per school, as most schools still have local tech teams who are domain admins over their own domain, central IT staff are then in enterprise admins which gives them admin rights over every school.

Presumably they sell alcohol? There's the deciding factor in car v no-car for me 😂

We changed to using the AV for USB Device Control. We use ESET and have a rule that sets all USB media to read only except where the vendor is "MBED" where it's read/write. Doesn't enforce encryption but we've banned USB drives completely so read only is good enough.

This sounds really odd. My only experience of FTTC is at work but we use little Cisco routers with an RJ11 socket to connect to the FTTC phone line. So I guess maybe they have sent the hub for FTTP? Pretty sure that FTTP comes in as fibre then is converted to copper with RJ45 connection, then into the super hub.

This is why everyone is mentioning redundancy, as you previously had 3 VMs per NIC apparently set manually this way, so it appeared to the casual bystander that there is none. Anyway it does sound like the NIC is knackered but good luck hope you get it to behave itself.

In which case you'd get a notification if half a NIC team fell over, which you said you wouldn't know about? Can't really say without seeing the setup but I'd have had at least 2 hosts in a cluster and been able to live migrate the VMs off the dodgy host in order to investigate it without causing any downtime?

Not taken it yet but going to be booking it sometime... probably next year now, so will be interested to see any replies on this. I've got the book and the MeasureUp practise tests which seemed to do me well for the three MCSA exams.

If it were another language I'd use an array, $Items[$EntryName] += $EntryTotal; but not sure if you can do that in Powershell.

In theory, if you have read permissions, taking ownership won't alter the permissions just change the owner. (Edit: Probably adds you in as well but it doesn't delete the existing entries, been a while since I've done this) If you don't have read access then it will also replace the permissions with new ones (as you don't have permission to see what the existing ones are). This will affect user access. Although I'd leave it until out of hours just incase.
