  1. Thanks for your replies. It turns out it was Schools Broadband's DNS Servers causing the problems. Downtime was 24 hours so I was panicking thinking it was us but other schools had problems as well.
  2. Thanks for that. It’s definitely a DNS issue but don’t know why it’s failed all of a sudden. I can ping clients and servers in both directions but unable to browse internet. Any advise with DNS forwarders or root hints? The DNS Servers (DCs) are unable to access the internet as well and I get the ‘no internet connection’ on the network adapter Our clients don’t get this message. Thanks
  3. Hi Has anyone ever experienced problems browsing the internet caused by DC sync issues? We’re unable to browse the internet and receiving DNS errors but so far our internet provider have not identified any issues although tests are continuing. In the meantime I’ve checked DC event logs and there are references that the DC hasn’t synced and AD DS but I don’t know if this is linked. How can I confirm both DCs are synced? Can this be done manually? Thanks
  4. Hi All, How do your staff and students read your ICT Acceptable policy. Do you have a disclaimer prior to each login (for students) and/or do you point staff in the direction of the policy for them to read. Thanks
  5. Hi All, How do you offer internet access for visitors? At the moment we have a visitor SSID but it's hidden to keep students off so we need to give visitors access by typing in the SSID, selecting security and then entering a generic username and password for them to have access. Obviously this isn't ideal with the number of visitors we get. Staff also have access this way and they also type in a username and password but I would like them to authenticate with AD. We use Aruba Central and our ISP is Schools Broadband. I assume a new VLAN is needed and of course filtering is needed. Thanks
  6. Hi, I've recently inherited Aruba Central and we don't have wireless access for staff and visitors. My proposal is to have separate SSIDs and ideally the staff one will authenticate with AD for Staff with student access blocked from AD and Visitor access will have a password given to them by Reception. Ideally the Visitor password will change automatically every week and emailed to Reception so they can hand it out to visitors. If the password doesn't change regularly I'd be concerned with Students getting hold of the password. Has anyone done this before that can offer advise? Thanks
  7. Thanks All I've been quoted at £400 for the first year and £280 for year two and three (three year contract) Due to our location (which is rural) we're unable to get FTTC and I believe our only option would be a Leased Line.
  8. Hi, How much should I be paying for a 100/1000 Leased Line for a Failover Connection? Is £400 a month a lot for something that hopefully won't be needed or is that standard? Thanks
  9. Thanks everyone Should have said that they are VM's running on Hyper-V and the Hosts also need upgrading so need to work out how I'm going to do them as well. I have two hosts so was just going to upgrade one (with no live VMs) and then migrate everything over so I can do the other. If I was to do this I would probably install a fresh copy of 2019 rather than an in place upgrade. Does that sound feasible?
  10. Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone has experienced any issues upgrading to Server 2019 from Server 2016? I have a number of Servers that need to be upgraded including DCs, File Servers, WDS Server, SIMS etc and wondering what the best path is to do this. Would/Have you created the Servers from scratch and migrated the services/data or should I be okay upgrading over the top - ensuring I have a recent backup of course! Any recommendation or advice on this would be useful. Thanks
  11. In the long term I want to use SCCM to deploy Windows 10 (plug everything else it does) but at the moment I don't have a Server capacity to do this! I need to deploy Windows 10 for testing purposes to around ten machines - what's the easiest way of doing this? Thanks
  12. So you have separate GPO's for 7 and 10 and just name them so you know the difference? I've updated the Admins but not sure if I have windows 10 policies, how can I check? Thanks
  13. How different are your Windows 10 GPO's compared to Windows 7? Are there any settings you would or would not recommend using? I'll need to have them working along my Windows 7 clients until all have been upgraded! Thanks
  14. Hi, My school is currently using Office 2013 so we are due an upgrade! It makes sense to skip 2016 and move straight to 2019 but this year we intend to use Office 365 as well (Mainly for Email). I intended to install Office 2019 on our Desktop machines and configure Outlook to use their Office 365 Mailbox. I'd also like to introduce One Drive. Can I configure our Desktop computers (with Office 2019 installed) to access One Drive data plus files saved to a local network drive? Ideally I'd install Office application using Office 2019 and configure Outlook to use O365 and Staff and Pupils can use the online versions of 365 from Home. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
  15. Hi, I'm finally getting round to testing Windows 10 and read a lot of threads on here but I was wondering if anyone has any tips and advise in regards to base images (Staff and Pupils) GPO Settings to use, features to remove, Start Menu, programs to install etc. So far I've installed Windows 10 Education 64-Bit V1809 using a DVD and all drivers have been installed which is a good start! Eventually I intend to roll it out using SCCM but for now I'll build a few test machines and let staff "test" them. I'm also introducing a 2016 Server which will be our new DC. Has anyone had issues adding a 2016 Server to a 2008/12 Domain? Should I create new 2016 GPO's for Windows 10 and Server 2016 PC's and Servers? Any info would be appreciated!! Thanks a lot
  16. Hi Is anyone still using Windows 7? I know support ends in January 2020 and was wondering what your upgrade plane are? Thanks
