  1. Hi Have you tried putting an exception rule in on your smoothwall. If it's generating that much traffic i suspect the smoothwall is "having a time" with it. Additionally, are you using caching with your smoothwall. At 1Gb connection speeds this should really be turned off. Finally, what is your AV solution doing, again exempting deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com may help. goodluck
  2. Randomly with OneDrive
  3. Our timetablers are quite happy with Keith Johnson Timetabler and Options. Previously a NovaT school.
  4. Hi Surely the student would have to be logged into the corresponding AD account to submit a job from it - you could also turn off guest printing. Making this more of a problem if they share passwords?
  5. Defo sounds like a driver issue - perhaps they can just role back (they probably installed after the shutdown from the last place they were at). I recall Windows Update once put on a new driver for my computer that wasn't compatible. So I had to safe boot too roll it back.
  6. Hi, Have you tried the problematic laptop with another display. Can it actually dual output to anything now?
  7. You can get a lot of additional help here MyNCSC - https://my.ncsc.gov.uk/ free Service from the government - its excellent. The blurb: "MyNCSC is a UK government service from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), bringing together a number of Active Cyber Defence (ACD) services into a single, coherent experience. These are currently the Mail Check, Web Check and Early Warning services, which report on an organisation's IT systems. Any UK organisation can sign up, but note that some services on MyNCSC limit their eligibility to certain sectors."

  12. Hi Koldov. Just create a new GPO that undoes the configs that are restricting you, ensure it applies only to the server in question (Security Filtering), it is enforced. and list it earlier in the inheritance list in GP Manager. Goodluck
  13. Hi We're experiencing the odd issue with it "not saving" and giving that as the error message when, in reality, it is saving. Its only a few staff, but the error message itself seems to be in (er...) error! Thanks
  14. Hi, There are two optimisation patches you may need to request - 20647 & 22573. We're not on SIMS anymore so I have no idea whether these are included in each release yet. They used to be available upon request. They should be run after every update and before validate memberships and database diagnostics. Worth monitoring the size of the log files created when running the reports incase your running low on disk space during the process. 15. Hi, we have installed 5 APs outside and put them inside IP55 (I think) boxes. Works a charm and costs considerably less. If any APs are attached to the outside wall of a building and connect directly into you network be sure to install lightening arrestors onto a earth source. APs need to sit between 3-4 meters up for optimimum signal coverage.
  16. Sorry JCX500 but that doesn't work (last long anymore). You will need to allow unauthenticated internet access for devices to the IP/URL:http://www.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt and http://ipv6.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txtA request for DNS name resolution of dns.msftncsi.com should resolve to 131.107.255.255 / fd3e:4f5a:5b81::1if you're using a proxy this set at login then this will be a problem, but if your devices can see the internet at the Windows login prompt - just specifically to the above, then you will be fine, or set you firewall to allow this access regardless of proxy presence. Its the only lasting solution. GoodluckThanks
  17. More information can be found on this link. https://www.stahs.org.uk/vacancies/it-technician/ Good luck!
  18. Students will be put into there intake groups for the next academic year and then you can start reporting on them. We usually start the process of Admitting student in July (once term is over) then we have 6-8 weeks to get them ready on all the system. Whatever your automated routine is might still need to be told the current status and intake year of your new student mind as they won't be current students.
  19. Hi After a version update of SIMS you should always apply optimisation patches 20647 and 22573, you'd have to check if this is is included in SOLUS 3 - if not then you will need to request them from Capita (I do this manually as am still using SOLUS v2 - we're leaving SIMS soon anyway). After that Database Diagnostics should be run from Tools > System Diagnostics > Database Diagnostics. And also the Validate Memberships Tool should also be run - this can take a some time. You should also archive Attendance data - just keep the last 3 years - this does have a big impact on SIMS performance too. Also Check your AV solution isn't scanning everything all the time for either Read or Write access - your preference. For those on hosted I guess the same principles apply but presumably the LEA take care of all of that. Goodluck
