  1. After its downloaded the wim file how does it speed up at all?
  2. There should be a SMSBoot folder. You can test files within there. So for example: tftp -i ipaddress get smsboot\x64\afile.ext
  3. Have you tried just running a TFTP test from a client machine? Might help diagnose if there's a network issue or if it's an actual TFTP issue. Think the command is something like: C:\TFTP server GET boot.wim
  4. Does imaging one PC work fine? What deployment system are you using?
  5. Hey all, not entirely sure if this is the right thread. I'm relatively new to App-V, and I'm trying to get a better understanding of streaming in SCCM 2012 (App-V 5.1). I've packaged up Adobe CS6, and it works fine. However, I'm trying to run it by streaming it from the server. When I press to install it, I was expecting it to stream it from the server and only download the parts I require. But unfortunately it seems to cache it all in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\App-V\etc and then seems to stream it in C:\Users\%Username%\AppData. I feel this takes up too much time and I guess I'm not streaming it properly. Could someone point me in the right direction as I'm sure I'm missing something obvious. Rough steps I've taken: - Created the App-V Package - Put App-V Package into SCCM (app-v 5 option). - Went into the properties and changed it from the download option to stream. - Deploy package (available) to testing group - On client I install package. The only thing I can think of is the deploy package available - does this have to be required? Any suggestions/ideas?
  6. Just to confirm what you've done so far. You've wiped the HDD and converted it to MBR, so now if you try rebuilding it hopefully your build works on a MBR format rather than GPT. Let me know how far it gets, hopefully it might just run through.
  7. Ah that sucks! Well congrats you found out what the problem was. Sods law that you had quite so many HDDs with the same problem. Would check disk repair do any good for them?
  8. Have you tried swapping the HDD out of a machine which works fine? Help rule out a HDD issue.
  9. @Jons How many computers are we looking at? Did I read correctly that you're a primary school? My preferred method would be a proxy. But if it makes life easy for administration, why not try something like a local install? (more like home/family type environment). So an example I found is Parental Controls | Monitor and block computer activity online and offline | Veridium Software. You can upgrade to pro too. You may need to phone up and ask for more information.
  10. You might have tried this already but I'd look at updating the BIOS. Also try enabling debug, to allow you to get a command prompt up. Then mount the share containing the wim file (e.g. net use V:\myserver\mywimlocation\) manually run the imagex/dism command to see if that takes a long time to do when done manually. Which log file is the one you uploaded is the the client's DISM.log?
  11. Sounds like your computer is booting legacy rather than UEFI. If your machine supports UEFI and you have an UEFI build disk then enable UEFI boot in your BIOS. Otherwise, run a Windows repair and bring up a command prompt then do the following (ignore anything in brackets - this is just info:)): Diskpart lis dis (list the disks) Sel dis 0 (0 being the number of the local HDD for the machine, containing windows) Cle (clean the disk) Con mbr (convert to MBR - legacy mode) Cre par pri (create a primary partition) For quick fs=ntfs (format the partition using NTFS) exit Then reboot. This should put your disk back ready for legacy.
  12. Morning all, I've recently started as a network manager and wondering what the current law is about keeping track of user's Internet usage? At moment we filter by AD groups, but doesn't seem to track their usage etc. How long do you keep track? Plus could you give an estimate of storage requirements. Thanks
  13. Bit of a long shot, but I notice the authentication errors, double check your SCCM certificates are not past the due date and up to date also try allowing anonymous access?
  14. Hate drivers, spent hours trying to work out why my task sequence wasn't deploying the drivers then realised it was crashing on Bluetooth drivers and some USB drivers as well. Pretty annoying.
  15. Hey all, Infrastructure: SCCM 2012 SP1 (images get windows updates offline scheduled). What's your preferred method of deploying OS/images? I'm not after the method i.e. wds, sccm, ghost, fog etc. Just your deployment preference. I've been using the 'build an image, capture it then deploy' method, then moved briefly to build and capture. But I think now, I'm looking at a bare minimal image (obviously the windows updates done offline) using the default install.wim for the windows install. Everything else is done as post vapps/applications. Using the same base image for all builds, minimal task sequences and a variable to confirm what type of build etc. All the environment settings can be done as part of the group policy or task sequence. Cheers,
  16. I was going to suggest that as an issue (took me a few hours to work it out first time round lol. If you KMS activate it, you get a rearm back and can sysprep.
  17. Are you sysprepping a virtual machine or a bare metal? I'd try to keep the drivers to the minimal if it's to build a base image (and use a virtual machine where possible).
  18. Just wondering, why the rush? Anyway, have you looked at multicasting? I've not done this myself, so not sure how difficult it would be to set up initially. But may help.
  19. Can't you just write a script to copy to system32?
  20. Hey all, I've been reading a threat started by @Chriss31 about laptops and Windows 10. Didn't want to hijack the thread with my question and it prompted a quick question. Started in a school and the teachers all have local admin privileges on their laptop (at moment its not high on my list of jobs). But I personally have no problem with them having local admin access. What's your views on this? Cheers
  21. Thanks all, with all the positive comments I think this has strengthened the case for refurbished laptops and ICT Direct .
  22. Morning all,I've been investigating different new/refurbished laptops and been speaking to @ICTDirect_Dave, and have good first impressions. Trying to strengthen the case with the refurbished laptops, could you give me a quick indication of what your experiences have been like with ICT Direct and refurbished laptops? Many thanks,
  23. Worry not - I'm using Cacti instead and installed weathermap on that. Working a treat
  24. Could you copy the data into a new excel file and save that? See if the new file lags as well.
