Hello I just got the DT lab setup with F360 installer. Ran the Fusion Admin install.exe on each machine. I got the exe and package file from https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-support/new-links-for-fusion-admin-install/m-p/12532204#M191102 So far testing with a test user is working, but until I get the DPIA done I can't give any students access. I did ran the installer on a laptop and was able to see an uninstaller listed in Control Panel Programs. I was under the impression that I could do an update in place with the following command: fusion Admin Install.exe --process update Does this not work?

I tried to use OnShape, but the Trust required a DPIA and I didn't get any help from them to do one.

Thanks. It's been difficult trying to do this. I have worked on an RM Network for years and not had this issue. Now working on a vanilla Windows network makes somethings harder to deal with. I will have a look at AppLocker.

I am having a hell of a time with this. I can't get students to launch the vm. They can't run batch files. Although the disk is set to immutable, a snapshot is created and remains on the drive which is only 120GB. I need to get the student to launch the vm from a menu shortcut. I don't even get a message to reset the disk. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks

Hi all thanks for reading this. I have moved to a new school and asked to create an oracle Virtualbox vm and deploy by GPO or SCCM. I haven’t any idea how to do this coming from a RM network. I would like to deploy the software and share the image from a server based share for install as that’s the method I use with the RM packager. Any help please?

Same here. Been using Virtualbox for years now. I remember one morning I brought the network to a standstill when I deployed a 35GB Windows 7 Python image to 8 computers. Thought if I started early I would avoided the peak logons. Big no-no. Anyhow its the safest way to sandbox and have complete control of computers for coding in a school. The RM blueprint for Virtualbox has been a lifesaver for me. Still using it. All my deployments are from a shared image off the server.

I like replit.com but for an annual cost compared to using a virtualbox image, I will go with the work it entails with the latter. Although I find the staff unappreciative of the savings my hard work as made for them!

Thanks for your assist. I thought I had responded to this, I can remember typing it! Anyhow this seemed to be a self-inflicted wound. Some how along the way I ended up with two locations in Apple School Manager. It could be a simple thing like a space when doing the SFTP data upload. So this one teacher wasn't syncing to Jamf. I dug through the settings and found this option under Organisation settings to include other locations namely SFTP. It all sync after that. This wasn't covered in the Jamf training, actually a lot wasn't covered. And I was told that support tickets get turned around in 24hrs but that hasn't happened.

Hi All I am a new to Jamf School and Apple School Manager. I have watched all the videos provided by both and setup the MDM and deployed iPads in 1-2-1 configuration. For the life of me, I can't get one teacher to sync from ASM to Jamf. The teacher is linked to a class in ASM. The data was input via SFTP and he was assigned an Apple Managed ID. All good there, but for some reasons the class shows up in Jamf but not the teacher. Does anyone have an idea what has happened? What am I missing here? Thanks for any help you can give.

I too am from the future - the year of the COVID-19 2020 and salute all of this thread for solving this problem and I am using Server 2016. To think this is still an issue now.

Sounds great, but I have gotten VB to run very nicely in 5 ICT rooms of 30 computers and thats for £0 per month. Mark you, it wasn't easy and there's noway I think anyone would want to pay after we grunts got it working in the first place. AS for changes to the VM, I use the shared path and change change the VM and redeploy the package. I agree with you, VB is a pig at times to setup/implement/maintain especially on the level of deployment we in education can sometime do. Even so, would love to know just how you did it? Guide anywhere?

At my school we running RM CC4. We use the RM Oracle VirtualBox blueprint (I know it proved easier to use than setting it up manual). The VM software is deployed with the computer image for the client machines. Using the blueprint, set the student share as drive N in the VM. This allows the student to save any work to their share within the VM. We only allow oneway - write to N drive. Off course as noted in this thread - no nics, no changes to the image and loads clean on every boot. This works for the ICT department. Also the deployment is less than a MB but the actual deployment of the VHD is from a share off the server. Got Windows 7 down to 30GB, deployment outside hours is bearable. Got the staff always asking for changes so modifing the VHD is easy on the share and then redeploy (which is a pain!). Windows 7 with MS Virtual Studio proved to be a right hog - 60GB to get all the modules required along with MS database. Current VHD only has Python and Windows 7 and a few other little programs.

Did you activate before pacakging? I am unaware of the legal issues for multiple copies of the same vm on many machines but it's the road I went down and it's working for us. Do you still have the nic on the vm?

Hi mshill and all I am responding to mshill. I have successfully implemented the RM VirtualBox at my school. Although some time ago and a right pain in the ass it was! I set it up to start fresh on every lunch. I activate Windows before packaging. Full access to the student N drive mapped. I also remove the NIC before packaging too. It's a sandbox so no access to my network!!! Been doing this for some years now and it works for me. Well until some teacher start asking for additional software on the vm, then back to square one to building a new vm. I must say that I owe a lot to the members of this forum for getting this packaging right.
