Need a bit of advice please. Our students have figured out that they can access restricted sites using google translate. Specifically they can bypass the youtube education filter and also seem to be able to access some age restricted stuff too. We are using a lightspeed filter and were wondering if anyone else had the same problem?

looks like it was an option related to user account control that was still enabled for some reason. There are no gpo's that would have enabled this, nor was it enabled in the image. Got a screenshot of the policy in question below. Any idea how this would have been reenabled on some clients and not others?

If its the same problem we had, disable the flash player add-ons and see what happens then... We had an issue where sites were taking ages to load or hanging, particularly youtube, yahoo and others. Everything was fine in private mode which narrowed it down to an add-on, i disabled flash and voila everything worked perfectly again. A reinstall of flash 11.8 fixed the problem. We were running 11.5 for specific reasons which was working fine and then out of the blue people started reporting the problem we both seem to be describing.

anyone able to shed some light on this problem?

Ive compared a report on both but apart from a few explainable differences theyre the same. I just dont get why some machines would act differently when they are all from the same image.

anyone got any idea?

Greetings, Im having a recurring problem with what seems to be user account control being re-enabled after being disabled. Before i reimaged all our clients over the holiday we used to get random machines denying access to system folders when full admins were logged in. We used to have permission requests when running programs on those machines when they had worked fine in the past. When i reimaged everything this summer the problem disappeared until the last week or so when it has started up again. Im currently logged in with my setup account as normal which is an account with domain admin rights and is a forced mandatory profile. I am being denied access to the temp folder and denied access to deleting files out of the system32 directory unless i take control of them. This user account works perfectly ok on other clients and i dont get these problems. All the clients were reimaged barely a month ago and have been working perfectly fine until now. I really dont know where to start to fix this problem. Any suggestions? Thanks James

Greetings, Im running forefront tmg 2010 and have a problem when accessing https sites. When i try to access an https site such as hotmail or my hosted owa i get hit with quite a long delay before the site is accessible. For example, going to hotmail.co.uk, i have to wait 10-15 seconds before i can click anything and another 20-30 seconds after logging in before i can do anything. My owa on a hosted system gives me up to a 10 second delay when first connecting too. I only get this delay with https sites. The same happens on the initial loading up facebook. Any ideas what may be causing this? James

Greetings, Our email contract is up for renewal soon and its time to start looking at the competition and alternatives. We currently pay for a hosted exchange system which we mainly access through owa. My main question is do i go for an in house exchange system or do i stay hosted. For the number of accounts we have and the mailboxes we have i dont think it is that badly priced but we are limited in that we cant create users/groups, share write access to calendars between staff and other annyoing little things. All this would be solved by an internal exchange setup although we can pay extra to our provider for the access to create users/groups. In your opinions is it worth paying for our own exchange setup and all the setup/training/running costs that go with it or to continue with a hosted system, whoever it may be with? Thanks James

re-searched ad again today and now only existing clients show which is great but it keeps showing up clients i know ive already licensed as unlicenced. Anyone seen this behavior before?

Thanks for your replies guys. Will check the dns server but some of these clients have been removed a long time ago. I remove them each time I update the list but they just come straight back. James

unusual change in domain logon behavior

I don't have netop but I do have netsupport school which is similar I believe and I do happen to have installed it on all the problem clients. I did try to reboot them a couple of times and it didn't go away but now I've heard this I'll try to rule it out. Thanks for your help :-) -
unusual change in domain logon behavior

Thanks for replying. I already had this setup in the default domain policy. All the other clients i have yet to image still logon correctly. Its just the newly imaged clients that display the wrong logon. Its not quite the same problem, i get a blue screen with just the icon to click on, no password box, i then have to click that icon before i can do anything else. Funny thing is i just remoted to it from home and its now working as expected but i guarantee you it wasnt working earlier. Its happened on every machine ive imaged today, seems an intermittent problem. James -
Greetings, I have rolled out my latest tested image to a couple of our IT rooms however im experiencing an odd change when it comes to logging onto the domain. Normally at the ctrl+alt+delete screen i get the usual username/password boxes, however since re-imaging these machines in instead get presented with an icon saying other user which i have to click to then get to the usual username/password logon screen. Now I had tested this image before I deployed it and it worked as expected so im a little confused as to how it has changed. Any ideas as to why i am seeing this change and how to force it back to the proper login screen? Thanks James

no one at all? -
Greetings, Having an odd problem with clients after imagin in that when any new device is plugged in the driver search can take upto a couple of minutes, even for something as simple as a memory stick or a mouse. Im convinced that this has to do with the sysprep procedure where i choose to clear existing drivers, however with multiple hardware setups this is necessary. Checking on windows update is disabled, local driver checking only. Im testing hardware that has existing windows drivers also. Any ideas would be great, Thanks James

music tech equipment

Thanks for your replies everyone, its given me a lot to think about. Im thinking just to rule it out, to buy an audio interface just to see if/how much of a difference it makes before shelling out on new kit.. Thanks again! James -
Greetings, Has anyone succeeded in archiving to tape a copy of a d2d backup in Backup Exec? This is not using a policy, just archiving an old backup to tape. Many thanks James

@Dave .. These pc's are about 6 years old now and 3 generations out tech wise too. Its just convincing the powers that it needs to be done. My upgrade advice was ignored based on someone not even associated with the department who said it didnt need to be done. They dont know the problems we have had with these units since we had them and they werent even bought with any consultation with IT. It was a rush decision from higher up based on a company recommendation (before i took over thankfully) and they were low spec when bought.. @Sparky I can thank the previous head of music who whinged non stop day after day how he was still getting lag even when i had it down to 64 samples. He wouldnt believe me when i said youd never get rid of it completely but he kept complaining to management about it so I had to keep trying. Thats the spec i was looking at, ive had a test pc with that spec and no noticable lag. Im convinced thats what i need to do first, upgrade the pcs.
