I have enabled the FTP access filter in ISA manager on my server but im still unable to access via ftp? any ideas?

It is a laptop, and you right this wont fix this problem. Ive heard about shorting out the chip on the motherboard, but seems quite drastic?

We have a couple of Dell D600 in the school, one of them was taken home last night and returned today with a hard drive password, the member of staff assures me one was never set, and i beleive him he comes from an IT support back ground an knows what hes doing. Its a white screen which prompts for hard drive password, if i remove the hard drive i can access the bios but no options in bios for hard drive password protection? Its strange as one has never been set? any ideas? I dont beleive its a bios password, but actually something to do with an EPROM chip which over rides the hard drive to ask for pwd.

Im currently bringing Moodle online at our school, i have completed installation etc, i now have to release it to staff then pupils. What i am looking for is pre-prepared cheat sheet kind of tutorials, pdf's etc for staff to pick up and run with atleast for a few months before pupils get there hands on it. Does anyone know of any (preferably) free resources which would guide teachers through the basics, and some of the more advacned features of moodle, im not providing technical support, just accurate data upload and relaible service. Everythig else is being managed by e-learning co-ordinator, any tips or suggestions for useful sites greatly appreciated, im also building our own FAQ to help.

Currently managing a number of schools, there are around four of us here and we all share responsibility and are all capable of doing each others job etc. What we need to be able to do is to introduce a reliable way of tracking what has been requested and what has been done. Were looking at a helpdesk called 'Heat' anyone heard of it used it? We make changes to websites, and templates in CSS for the parental reports for individual schools but we need to track individual needs for each school etc Can anyone recommend anything? We thought about using a wiki to record procedures request etc, something simple and effective, perhaps schools could log in also to veiw there tickets? open source prefrable.

I have to perform an extraction for a web based piece of software our group of school uses, we need each extraction to have a unique identifier which comes straight from the database. The schools run both Sims.net and CMIS, the unique identifiers dont have to match each school each school is independant. I have to extarct first name, surname, classes, year and tutro group along with a unique number/set of charecters for each teacher, can anyone think of anything or suggest anything. We tried DFES numbers and Payroll number but schools donw always have a complete set of this information. Dan

Im unsure of what components are compatible with what, obviously motherboard expansion will be limited with dell, but who should i got to for components, could anyone put something together for me for reference?

Im looking to buy a new PC or Laptop, I currently have a laptop and sometimes feel a bit restricted as far as upgrades expansion etc plus cost. I want to spend around £1000 and get something thats going to last around two years, I've looked at Dell etc but im unsure of which PC/laptop is going to give me best value for money. Its bacially going to be used for VPN to work, web design bit of graphic work but only fireworks/ bit of photoshop, surfing the net bits and pieces as they come up, but i want it to be quick, so i was looking at 4Gb ram and dual core processor. I can see the benefits of going with AMD = Price tag Any tips, recommmended suppliers for personal use please would be nice.

we are in Birmingham also, i beleive its a result of poorly written code, basically its a memory leak? do you run it on IIS or apache?

We have audacity but then we would need kids to download loops etc, was wondering wether there a web based version whihc has a number of loops preloaded for instance. Were sticking with dida, kids seem to enjoy it, steep learning curve though but staff rising to the challenge.

Were looking for an online perhaps flashed based piece of sftware to create basic loops and music tracks for the DIDA qualificaiton, can anyone suggest anything?

Very very good piece of software, earlier versions were very unstable but this one seems spot on!

Have you taken everything off the motherboard, cleaned and reseated everything?

can anyone help me this unix? The sql stuff will just be basic selects. moves etc but the unix will be a bit more in depth? i supposse im a bit mystified by it all, i need to know unix i presume i need to know the commands and the basis of these commmands
